I'm hoping to buy a new pc relatively soon, since the last one I built was from 2003 and I feel that I desperately need to upgrade in order to play the newer games that are coming out (BF3, ME3, Skyrim, etc).
I mostly play FPS games, but play some MMOs, RPGs, and strategy games as well. I expect my gaming resolution to be 1920x1080 and will only be using 1 monitor for the moment, possibly upgrading to a 2nd monitor in a few months time. Right now I'm looking for some opinions on this particular build, since I've been lurking these forums off and on for a while and I've saved up some money to put together a new rig. Budget: Under $3k (mouse&keyboard, monitor, speakers, etc. will be bought separately) Expectations: I want to have this build last me for the next 5 years or so, with minor upgrades to the gfx cards perhaps. Usage: 80% gaming; 20% web surfing, movies, music, etc. Special Needs: None that I can think of. Thats a solid build, yup with a gpu change in 2 to 3 years it will feel like a new pc, also these may fit the future ivy bridge chip so, in a year or so if you wanted you could upgrade teh cpu too.

Well, I do like the build I posted but I'm also thinking about the ODE level 3. The specs are comparable and I would save almost $500. That would help me stay on budget after buying a new monitor, speakers, mouse&keyboard, etc.

well you should go with DS ram, not that it makes a huge price difference, but keep in mind in this build you have more upgrade options, ode is great for the price, it really is amazing, but your upgrade options can be limited.
Then there is the bigger case, more airflow, hot swap bays, and the difference is not $500, the ode 3 is $2339, your config with DS ram is $2,791 before promo, after promo your price is $2666, that a difference of $327, you need to decide if that difference is worth the upgrade options it brings, the better psu/cpu cooler and the bigger case brings for you or not. For the price vs performance tho you can't beat ode 3. |

I definitely like the bigger case and upgradability... think I'll be pulling the trigger on this build! :)
