I have my computer up to 3.8ghz from when DS overclocked it last year when I bought the machine. Skyrim is out and it is very CPU intensive so I wanted to get my speed up a bit. Maybe someone can walk me through this? I forgot who did it, but a few years back someone walked me through the process and we got more out of my CPU.

Justin is the one that helped you and with that speed I think he would tell you that the extra .2 or .3 GHz is not gonna make much of a difference, what res you gaming at?

You are not going to gain much at that res from the cpu.
do you have teh latest driver with sli profile for skyrim? if yes then have you tried running it without sli with one gpu and see if you get better results? |

Yeah, I have the latest drivers. In the intro when I looked at one place (like WAY at the beginning) I was getting 45 fps or so then when I turned around and looked the other way it was 60 fps. I don't see how my computer can struggle with this as it is no slouch, yet I am seeing people with lower specs getting 60 fps all over.
Regardless, I would stil like to OC my cpu more as it won't hurt in other situations. Edited by nomec - 12 Nov 2011 at 12:35pm |

Ocing your cpu above 4.2 or around it will give you a high vcore, we have the nehalem cpu so for us to go over 4.2 is gonna probably need a vcore higher then we like.
I see people with sli 580 all the time have the issues you have in skyrim. the game fluctuates, anybody tells you they are getting 60fps all the way thru with dual , I would say is not being very truthful and I would want to see that for myself. call DS and ask them to help you get a higher oc. So what's the best way to get this done? I didn't pay for the enhanced overclock from DS. I see tons of people out there at 4ghz or higher so I'd like to get that or more. People are seeing way better performance in Skyrim with relatively moderate overclocking.

Your setup isn't really bottlenecked by your CPU. You will notice a very little performance gain, and it may increase the risk of stability issues.

Hi nomec, This is your system and you should do whatever you want. You statement above tells me that a slight increase in your OC is not going to help you at all. If lower OC is doing better than you why increase your OC? If Justin helped you OC to 3.9 then I would bet that is the best he could do and stay stable. You are way better off with a lower OC that is stable than a high OC that causes problems. Where are you getting the information that your performance is not up to par? It sounds to me like you are doing great. Is your game playing suffering or are you just hung up on the numbers? Frank Edited by FrankW - 06 Dec 2011 at 12:35pm |
