Budget:
Up to 5k if needed. Generally looking at $3500 to $4500. Expectations: Need the case to be 8.25" wide or less to fit the CPU Holder on my Uplift standing/sitting desk This is to replace an existing DS system that I use for gaming and for working. Heavy memory utilization. Looking to play Cyberpunk 2077 at the highest settings possible. I'm looking for AIO liquid cooling that is low/no maintenance. Usage: Gaming and Productivity Special Needs: Need the case to be 8.25" or less to fit the CPU Holder on my Uplift standing/sitting desk I'm also concerned with spacing around the CPU to make sure it's relatively easy to replace/service the AIO cooler in the future. The config # you gave is for a Lynx Ultimate pre-built @ $1499.
I can't reconstruct your build. The Corsair Dominator RAM appears no longer available for one thing. It is now G.Skill Trident Z. I put everything on the above list into a Lynx case, and it comes out $3542 after discount. The only things I have to add are that the Intel platform is a backwards-looking PCIe Gen 3. Everything AMD is PCIe Gen 4. Not a killing blow, but it is a thing, especially going forward, in my view. The new 5900X is far better for productivity that requires 64 GB of RAM. It's over 20% better for multi-core tasking, and won't hurt gaming. There's a wait for AMD 5000 series CPUs until January at the least, but the wait for an RTX 3080 is indefinite. I don't think you will get out of Stage 1 until January, and most are waiting 2 months+ for a 3080. I don't know why you would prefer a mechanical hard drive at Storage System 2 with your budget. Since I can't get to where you are from that list, that's all I've got. |

Appreciated for the feedback.
I've got a better link to a revamped AMD based version. I'm guessing the other link 'broke' because the memory stock changed. Please take a look and let me know any other feedback. Any thoughts on the MB selected or other's to consider? I decided on the 64 GB 3200 DDR4 over the 3000 with RGB. I'll have enough lighting impact from the fans and interior lighting. If I didn't want to wait on the 3080, are there other graphics cards I should consider that will support DLSS and Ray Tracing? I can wait, if the wait's worth it. Not sure the ~$1400 added to go to a 3090 is worth it right now. Thanks in advance! Well, like I said, whatever it is you think you need 64GB of RAM for, the 5900X is better at than the Intel gaming chips. If this is mostly a gaming rig, you will never need more than 32GB for the the lifetime of this build.
I am personally fond of the MSI mobo. No issues there. With the large Firecuda, I recommend you partition your primary drive for maybe 200GB or so, if you need that much. Your OS, browser, maintenance apps, and productivity apps you use often can go there. Scanning and backup will be expedited for you at all times. Windows can find your other programs and files anywhere you put them. The GPU question is entirely YOUR thing. I believe the 3070s are available now, and they are a great bargain for 1440p at 90fps and up at high settings. They are about the equivalent of a 2080 Ti, last Gen's SuperCard that cost $1400. The 3080 is enough overkill to max about everything, but I don't know why that's necessary. IMHO, often "good enough" is a perfectly worthy target. That said, the 3080 might not prove to take longer to get than the 5900X, and it's in the budget. The Radeon 6800 XT is a great card that has some extras alongside a Ryzen 5000 series CPU, and does ray tracing but it doesn't do DLSS. It's also in short supply. All that extra RAM is for rendering, modeling, photo work, hard cor multi-tasking, and other heavy lifting. Won't do a thing but remain idle in gaming. The DS branded pick has been trouble free forever AFIK. It's usually Adata. The wait times are on the vendors. DS gets as good a supply as anyone, the shortages are everywhere. Good luck! I almost forgot. IDK where that "Total cost with instant savings" comes from, but your configuration at checkout will get a $400 discount applied. $3692! Edited by Cretae - 19 Dec 2020 at 5:15am |
