Hi and thanks in advance.

I'm looking at building a new machine to replace my 4+ year old gaming rig that died. Instead of  fixing the old workhorse I thought I'd get a new machine. I've decided I'd really like to have an SSD boot disk.  My budget is as close to $2300 as possible (I'm having major sticker shock ATM). One thing I'm probably going to do is install my slow HD from my old computer into the new machine and transfer over my games to a new drive.

I mostly play MMO's and RPG's. (WoW, RIFT, SWToR, Skyrim, Fallout)

My current resolution is 1600X1200.  I am happy with this resolution for what I am currently playing but I "might" be getting a new monitor within the first few months of next year that would greatly increase that resolution so I'd like to build a machine that could possibly add a card if necessary although it is not a requirement.

I looked at the ODE1 but as stated I'd really like an SSD boot disk.  The ODE3 looks good but I'm concerned about the airflow in the case, the PSU, the reliability of the SSD on it and from what I have read here the Caviar is a superior HDD.

I've made this build based on my lurking here: 619961

A few more questions.
How hard would it be to get an ODE1, buy an aftermarket SSD, install it and make it the boot disk? I know this does not have SLI as an option but I wanted to know.
If I went with a single card, would getting the GTX 570 2.5GB be a big improvement over the 1.2GB?
If I went with the above build could DS put in the 500GB Western Digital Caviar drive, it isn't listed?

Thanks for your help.

Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans:

haf 200mm non led fan

Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc.

you can drop the psu lower but then in the future if you want to upgrade the sli to future cards and they have needs of a 580 sli the 750w can't do it.

Answers:

adding ssd is very easy and you clone to move everything in one shot from hdd to ssd.

you can follow my clone guide here

which 570 you go with depends on what your res is gonna be.

DS can put in whatever you like however:

a. the 1TB WD BC is chosen for its speeds that other drives don't have, including the 500GB BC.

b. as mentioned before prices of hdds are high right now, you gonna pay what you normally pay for a 1TB for a 500GB right now, aka less speed/space for the same money.

now my questions:

my build above is based on yorr res being 1900 x 1200, if your res is higher or lower, my config will change, so What is the native resolution of the monitor you gonna be gaming at? (if you want me to build a pc that will support your monitor upgrade, I will need to know the res of that monitor).

Thank you very much for your assistance!!

I'll order the extra fan and request the vcore lower than 1.4 although I'm not exactly sure what vcore means, I'm assuming it has nothing to do with video card and is a CPU thing.

When I get this computer I'll place my old slow HDD from my dead machine in it.  That drive is the current boot drive for my dead computer.  I know I'll specify  the SSD for the boot but my old HDD has vista on it, will there be any conflicts? I'm also assuming it is fairly easy to put a second HDD in.

I have not looked into new monitors yet.  If I get one I'll be waiting on my work bonus for the much needed cash.Drooling
Thanks again.

I am in your situation with putting an old drive in a new machine and I will yell you what I was told. You will have no problems just plug it in and delete what you dont want and keep what you do. It is extreamly easy to add or remove a drive it will take less than 2 mins of your time. VCORE is the voltage going to your cpu...the faster an overclock the more voltage required. The down side is if you go above 1.4 the life of the cpu tends to go down.

Good luck with your build!

Thanks for the help everyone.  I ordered my new computer last night.  In the bottom of the request (in the space with limited characters) I requested the vcore 1.4 and the fan.

Hopefully I'll get the computer soon.

Any idea when the price of hard drives might be coming down?

Once again thanks for all of your help.
