- Not interested in leaving room for upgrades (2-3 years)
- Pure gaming and video editing/rendering
- 12' x 18' foot room with computer sitting on open carpet floor, 18" floor fan always running (included becuase i know my rig temp will be brought up) Stays about 68 F in here.

Came down from the GTX on Tyler's advice. Came down from 1066Hz ram to 800Hz becuase, (so ive been told) the processor OC negates buying ram to match the FSB, and that there is not enough of a power margin between 800 and 1066 RAM for this rig to spring for the 1066MHz, Right?
*Also, I'm passing on RAID 0 set up advice for now.

Looking to tweak/add some power to bring the price as close to $2100.00 as I can.

My plan:
Go up to the PRO case, and add 2 fans to my order ($10-$15 per fan, right?) I really would rather not go above the PRO for a case.
Doing this would add a significant amount of interior room and airflow, giving me the option to then OC my GPU more safely/easily.
So, I'm thinking:
Upgrade to pro case +15
add 2 fans +15 +15
OC vid card +45
Possibly OC RAM +45?  for this build, timing or speed?? (speed i'd guess)
$2072.00

Still safely within my range, mabye even add some case lights :)

Thoughts? Critiques? Changes? Please explain your comments too, I'm learning but Im no expert.

i think you're getting the wrong idea on the ram and processor. Many people do believe that it is best to have the memory at a 1:1 ratio with the processor. so onto the explaining...

all intel core 2s are quad pumped so the q6600 actually has a bus of 266.5mhz (266.5 x 4 = 1066)

the q6600 has a locked multiplier of 9. With the bus and multiplier, you get the processor speed (266.5mhz x 9 = 2.4ghz)

DDR memory is duo pumped so PC6400 (800mhz) ram is 800mhz / 2 = 400mhz.

to overclock a q6600, you need to change the bus since the multiplier can't be changed.

To achieve a speed of 3.2ghz on a Q6600, you would have to raise the processor bus to 355mhz (355mhz x 9 = 3.2ghz). So it would make much more sense to have PC6400 underclocked for a 1:1 ratio instead of PC8500.

To achieve a 1:1 ratio with the q6600 and pc6400 ram, you need to underclock the ram to 355mhz or overclock the processor to 3.6ghz.

Getting faster ram does give you headroom for overclocking and to upgrade to a 1600mhz fsb processor in the future. But some people do argue that ram faster than intel's processor bus is completely pointless.

so.. get 800 and underclock it to match.
Is the ram i have chosen the best option for that, or would 4gb @ 667 speed ram be best to tweak?

and all the rest?
