I am hoping for a decent tax return this year, and am probably going to invest ~$1400-1600 into my new gaming PC. I play pretty much everything. I bought this DS PC about 5 years ago and have been extremely happy with the purchase. A couple years ago I called them and they talked me through upgrading the power supply and the graphics cards. It is upgraded as far as it can go but new games are starting to get choppy, so I figure getting 5 years out of your PC is excellent and it is time for a new one.
The big issue is I moved to the desert southwest and live on the outskirts of town. This means that my back window looks right into the open desert. Dust storms occur here a lot between March and July, and I need a PC that will resist it, and yes, my PC is indoors but dirt still comes in pretty heavily no matter what you do. Even in the off seasons, dust accumulates to a thick film every week. I have to pull my PC apart every 2 or 3 days to blow out all the crap. I am wondering if for my price range if I will be able to find a PC that can handle my environment without me having to constantly clean it out. Even if I could get that down to cleaning it out once or twice a month would be awesome. Still toying around with builds, not sure what I really want yet, but the dust issue is a big problem I want to figure out before I buy. Thanks in advance! |

When your not using your computer get a dust cover for it and put on it. They also make magnet filters to cover your case fans.

Here's a build to get started with. The Slade 550D is the quietest case here because the top and sides are all closed up. The front has 2x 120mm fans with a magnetic dust filter and the front door in front of that. The bottom has an opening to intake air to the power supply and the back has vents for the video card and to exit the interior heat. What makes it quiet might also help keep blowing sand, etc out of it. No guarantees.
![]() The rest of the cases have either the top open and/or the top and side with vent holes. Being a closed case, the air flow is a little less than others, but for a single card setup it'll work just fine. It is rated very good. Its a little over budget, but you can tweak the drives, video card, etc. Not sure what video card to recommend without knowing what you have and what monitor's resolution you have, but the gtx 760 is a decent card. Another thought..... If that build is a bit above budget, you could save $200 and go with the Vanquish lvl 4 for even better gaming performance, the gtx 770 vs gtx 760. But, you might need to mod the case by blocking the side vents and the top vents with material or whatever. And add another 120mm fan to the front which it has space for. The same for the Virtue lvl 1. The Slade 550D has been tested and designed with the top and sides closed up and the others have not, so I really can't say if cooling would be the same. I would think it would be but.....

Definitely going to look into that bprat! Thanks. If it can handle my crappy dust environment going a *little* over budget would be fine. I'll also look at the Vanquish but when I am ready to buy I'll have to discuss it with a CSR to see if that would work.

Will keep in touch. Still looking around. Waiting to see what my tax guy says my return will be, since that will determine what my budget is. Dust season is about to pick up :-(. Had 35mph winds last week and I'm sure in a few more weeks we'll be looking at brown skies.
Looks like the vanquish lvl 4 will get me more PC for my money, but the slade *might* be better for my environment. |

Vanquish 4 is the best bang for the buck.
