hey!

I'm looking to buy a 3rd internal HD, around a 500GB to 1TB.  Any suggestions?

Have you considered a 300gb, 10k RPM V-raptor?

Gee, I would have said go with Seagate, but it's a coin toss. I've had a bad history with Maxtor. Problem is my experience is rather outdated. In fact, all 7200 rpm SATA drives are pretty much the same..., probably.

Seagate and WD are both equally good.

any particular WD models that I should buy? or are virtually all the 7200 RPM 500GB to 1TB the same?

I don't think I want to spend 300 dollars on the 300gb raptor, but maybe...

Eh... the Hitachi we use at work on some of our desktops... the MTBF rating looks ok on paper, but we seem to see unusually high failure rates early on the drives...

I would stay away from Hitachi, unless you have a contract for repairs they are way too fragile a drive.

Maxtor and Seagate both would get three votes from me vs 1 for the Hitachi... :)
