hi all
I purchased from digitalstorm about 2 years ago. i have been extremely happy with my purchase. I hope the company is still as good, if not better, than they were back then. my comp still runs smoothly and customer service was very helpful and friendly. anyways I am looking to give this system to my stepson and buy myself a new comp. this is my current system: System Configuration: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (80GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Extreme Performance) (Model: SSDSA2MH080G2R5) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Seagate/Hitachi/Western Digital (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVDąR/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 22x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card(s): 1x ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) H20 Tube Color: - Not Available Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available CPU Boost: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Graphics Boost: - Not Available Memory Boost: - Not Available OS Boost: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Pre-Install Game: FREE: Please include a free copy of a hot-selling game Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Medium) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Limited Warranty with Life-Time Customer Support I was very happy with this system and im looking to get something similar but just upgraded. my budget is between 2000-2500 dollars. my current system was about 2100 i think. I love the SSD and i loved the video card. I like the 2 hard drive. SSD was for my gaming and my TB harddrive was for my movies / music etc etc. I use my computer for gaming mostly. I mainly play MMOs (soon to be guild wars2, SWTOR, WoW etc) I also play games like star craft 2 and skyrim. It's important that i can play the game on the high / ultra settings. I also use my computer for watching and downloading movies. I watch alot of youtube vids as well. so as u can see i dont need a super strong system. It is on a good portion of the day so i want a solid cooling system. Noise level needs to be quiet too. MY system now is very quiet and remains very cool even in when the room is warm. I love my current case (the cooler master). I remember upgrading my cooling system / fans last time. anyways can anyone offer me any help? keep in mind, im clueless when it comes to hardware and what stuff means. I spend a good 2-3 weeks researching what people were saying was good last time and thats what i ended up getting built. looking to do the same again. thanks! |

Have you thought about just upgrading your video card? You could throw a GTX 670 in there (heck, even a 570) and max out all of the games you mentioned with a 250-400 dollar investment.
If you want to spend the 2000, I'd recommend the ODE series. Hard(essentially impossible) to beat for single card solutions.

Hi Godhand456... That's the exact custom build I was just gonna post for ya, with one exception, the gtx 670 instead of the HD 7970. Both are great cards and here's a link to compare benches to help you decide.
Some games are better with 7970 and some worse. Kind off a toss-up. The 800W psu is good and has a 5 year warranty with DS throwing in the last 2 years. A better quality psu and one with a 7 year warranty and modular, is the 750HX for another $50 I believe. Modular means if you ever have to replace it, only the mobo's two cables have to be re-routed. The Sabvertooth is also my pick unless you want onboard WiFi which the Deluxe has. Otherwise, the Sabertooth has a 5 year warranty vs 3 year for Deluxe, which tells of its quality. I agree with LaneHayes on the ODE level 3. They didn't have pre-builds a couple of years ago and they make them best bang for the buck to move them. It would be cheaper for the same perfromance. But, the custom's give you more options, like the HafX case, the best for air cooling. Hope this helps and good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 07 Aug 2012 at 12:49pm |

Also, if you want to save a few bucks, drop to 8gb ram, all that gaming can use.

ok newb question...when u say the deluxe motherboard has onboard WiFi, what do u mean? im assuming i wont need that as my computer hooks up to my cable modem while my stepson and wife connect via the wireless router. my wife uses a laptop but my stepson, we had to buy a wireless connector so his computer could connect to our signal.
i was going to 16GB RAM only because it seemed cheap. was only a 50 dollar increase. |

You're right. If you hard wire to the modem/router the onboard WiFi isn't needed. Memory upgrade is cheap so if you can then go for it. It certainly doesn't hurt.
