I've been looking at an ODE 1 which seems to be  a solid system. My goal is to spend no more than 2k. I will be using the system for MMO and RTS games, photos and videos and word processing/excel work.

I've also found another computer that seems solid too. Let me know what you think. It's from HP Both systems will end up being around 2k (with inlcuding of a monitor)

dont know if you heard but HP in a press release stated they will be getting out of the hardware business aka not making computers any more. Although the press release was very vague so they may roll it into a new company, either way though digital storm is leaps and bound above HP in almost every category. God for bid something is wrong with your HP computer good luck talking to tech support, with digital you will talk to people in the same building as people who built the computer located right here in america.

Thanks for the heads-up on the customer service. Now in regards to the components, how do you think it compares?

Not sure what case they are using ,it looks like a standard case to me.

I guess when looking at the components it looks like they are high end (processor, Vcard) and actually are better than the ODE 1.

Can you tell me why you think this is a hot mess of a system?

I'm looking to game at the highest settings

What is going to be a hotmess?

the case

the cpu is inferior to the 2600k, 2600k at 4.4 is so much faster then the 970 specially when the 970 is stock speeds.

the ram amount and speed are both hotmess

don't know what kind of psu that is.

the difference between 580 and 570 where it counts at 1900 x 1200 res is like 2 to 5 fps, which means nothing, well it means a waste of your money, at lower res then the one mentioned, the difference is zero.

it has no cpu cooler

its gonna be stock speed

ode 1 will eat that system in cooling/gaming performance for a snack.

you never told me what res you gonna be gaming at.

one major problem with hp is that lot of parts you get are cheap, what mobo are they giving you with that system? what brand psu? what case? those are all very important in cooling and reliability of your system.

on top of that you got hp going out of pc business.

To be honest if you want a good quality reliable pc, hp is not gonna be it, I'm a customer like you so I have nothing to gain by telling you this, other then not wanting you to waste your money on that hp pc.

iBUYPOWER is the worst place you can buy from.

I suggest you google them they are horrible, I would advie you to buy from hp before I advised you to buy from ibp.

that build sucks:

1. its made with crappy parts.

2. their customer svc is horrible

3. the mobo sucks

4. the psu super sucks

5. Asetek sucks

6. don't be surprised if your case does not come with all the fans (there were doing that before, not sure if they are still doing it)

7. up to 10% oc? lolllllllllllllll its not even 10%, and even if it was why bother lolllllllllll

Hi bcglobal,

When someone looks for a new computer we all want the best performance, reliability, features and support that we can get for the money. It seems to me you are looking at computers with attractive prices and over looking the quality and other aspects of your purchase. I urge you to consider the following.

1. The i7 9XX CPU is now an old series and with the new CPUs coming on the market this fall it will be further behind. Why would you want an old CPU OC to maybe 3.6Ghz when you could have 4.2 to 4.4 or so for the same money with the 2600k CPU? The i7 9XX is a poor choice over the 2600k CPU.

2. SD uses the best components and you know exactly what they are. When you get "Major Brand" from other companies they could be anything. Many Major Brands offer poor performance or reliability. Everything offered by DS and recommended by this forum, has proven performance. That is not the case with the other brands you are looking at.

3. Support should be number one to any one buying a computer. How many times do we call a company support staff and find that they are in India or some other foreign country. If you are lucky you can understand them. With DS the Support staff works at the DS plant and are backed up by everyone who works there. If you have a problem DS will make it right.

4. You mentioned a reseller website that gives IBP a good review. I checked IBP on the US BBB and over the past 12 months they had 43 complaints. DS has had 4 complaints in the past 12 months. No matter how hard a company tries there is always going to be a few customers that are not satisfied for some reason.

bcglobal, I am a customer of DS and a long time computer user. SD builds and supports great computers. You will be making a huge mistake if you buy from any of the other companies you are looking at. I urge you to forget these other companies and concentrate on getting the best DS computer you can afford. It will give top performance with the best support you could hope for.

Frank

Thank you everyone for all your help and feedback. The websites from the other companies make the systems appear to be high end. I'm glad I was able to get in touch with people that know the difference in quality.

Thanks again!
