lower benchmark scores after 2 weeks

   Hello i have had my pc for a couple of weeks. i ran a drystone/whetstone benchmark test when i first received my computer and it score about 98-99
k's now it runs about 94,000 . How important is the cpu performance in 3D gaming? I understand that it has more to do with the graphics card, which the benchmark test that i have does not measure.  I have closed most of the processes and applications that i dare to when i  ran the test. Does anyone have any ideas on how to boost the results of this test.?I am not overly concerned because it is only about a 4% drop but it still kind of bugs me.
