As others will most likely suggest, go with the "SSD M.2 (500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS) (NVM Express)" for much more speed than a standard SSD drive. I got the 1TB Samsung in my Lumos, the extra storage comes in handy for my photo editing and movie production work.
If noise is any concern, consider the Corsair LL or ML fans. Depending on the monitor that you will be using (1080p vs 1440p), you might want to consider moving up to the RTX 2070 Super graphics card. |

If you can upgrade a few things, like the GPU, SSD and fans, and get your total price up to $ 3000, you will get $300 off plus free shipping, netting you out to $2700. See the Special Offers above the price in your config in green print.
Here is a possible config: 2939184 This is based on recommendations from several of the guys on this forum. Cost is $3080. Less $300 plus free shipping nets out to $2780, about $200 more than your original config They guys on this site will have other suggestions. I took the suggestions from Cretae and got $300 of improved options for free by following his advice. Something to consider. Edited by rgire - 01 Apr 2020 at 7:15pm |

Just some comments.
rgire put together a nice upgrade for you there, but I think he overlooked the fact that you still get $200 off the build you made. you might not want to go quite that far. By all means, you want one of the NVMe M.2 drives for your primary. The 512GB Samsung 970 PRO is even a bit cheaper than the 500GB EVO PLUS, and the difference in performance is slight. The difference in performance between either of those and the DS SATA M.2 though, is huge. the 5x performance of an NVMe for your OS and apps and drive scans is VERY cool. The main problem I see is that your GPU can't come close to driving a 4K monitor. A 2060 is just not designed for that. You'd have to play everything on lower settings, and that would kinda defeat the purpose of a 4K in the first place. You could get by with a 2070 SUPER, but you might find that disappointing as well. I normally don't recommend overclocking the GPU, but in this case, a safe oc from DS would help you get decent framerates on medium and sometimes high settings. Compromises would be necessary, but it would work. The consensus pick for 4K at 60Hz would be a 2080 SUPER if you can swing it. Most games would play on high, and some even on Ultra. The Mobo is a little more than you really need, so you could find a little extra cash there. The ROG Strix would be fine. Not everyone thinks high/ultra game settings are an absolute goal, (I don't!) so you be the judge. Please do all the research you need to be sure of your choice. This may not apply to you as you said your current rig died, but Nvidia is coming fairly soon with a new lineup. It's possible the new version of the 2070 would be much stronger at 4K at around the same price point. Problem is, the Covid-19 business could move that down the timeline. I felt I had to mention it.

That will perform much better at 4K for you. You should be pleased.
Still wish you could squeeze in The Samsung 512GB 970 PRO NVMe. The extra $89 would reward you every time you boot up and perform a scan/launch a program. 5X the speed has to be seen to appreciate.

DS are running a little slower right now due to the virus situation. I made a change to my build by simply filling out a Request Help form which is in the drop down menu under SUPPORT, or you can call their sales dept. After making your changes, you will have to pay the difference via card and they will send you your new config. I submitted my final config on Mar 23 and am still in Stage 1, so you have time.

Our pleasure, Ole Scratch! It's no fun to spend all that money and overlook something that could have made for a more complete experience.
