Hello,
In 2018, I bought a Level 1 Lynx build. In recent years it’s been beginning to struggle and never really achieved great FPS, which is why I want to give it an upgrade. Below are a list of the specs that were in my build scanned by Speccy. (Disclaimer: I’m not the most knowledgeable in PC parts and upgrading, so I apologize if I misunderstand some things.) My current specs. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Pinnacle Ridge 12nm Technology GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B350M-A (AM4) RAM: 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1463MHz (Couldn’t tell you what specific PSU I currently have. But according to a DS customer support rep. it’s 600w based off my other specs.) My desired upgrades are listed below. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X GPU: Intel Arc A770 Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Max Wifi PSU: Cooler Master V750W Gold I have been doing some research over the last couple days and feel like this is a relatively comprehensive list for some good, but not too crazy upgrades. I do have a couple random questions though. 1. Is a 750W PSU too much? I figure it’s better to have too much power compared to too little and having to upgrade again later. Would a 750W PSU fit inside my Lynx tower? 2. The ram I have in my current build was also installed after we got the pre-build. Would I be able to theoretically reuse these ram sticks in the upgraded build?) 3. Are all of my upgrades compatible with each-other? and with the tower that I currently have? 4. For my upgrade, would it be worth getting an ATX motherboard over mATX? 5. Is there anything I missed / something to keep in mind? |

Interesting choices. We here usually concentrate on the DS offerings, but I've taken a look at your parts.
"I figure it’s better to have too much power compared to too little and having to upgrade again later." You are absolutely correct! The 750 will fit. The motherboard is good quality. A full-size board will always be easier to work on, but I like MSI boards, and this one looks very good. It's easy to find the RAM specs and yours will very likely transfer over. The CPU is better than the one you have. It's not a quantum leap ahead, but very hard to beat if you are getting it ~$140. Next step up would cost around $200. The GPU choice is interesting. It compares well with an Nvidia 3060 and a Ryzen 6600, and edges them in 1440p performance. Interestingly, it is way better than the card currently offered in the Lynx #1. If you could find an Nvidia 3060 Ti at an agreeable price, you might consider it. It's an excellent card and about 15% stronger across the board. The Lynx #1 is not intended for high performance as you found. It is an entry-level gaming PC to introduce folks to the hobby on a PC here at a "Boutique Builder". Your proposed upgrade will not be a screamer, as you also know, but it will be a very strong improvement. For the prices I think you probably found, It's a fine job of research, and you will not be disappointed. ![]() ![]() |
