Hi guys!

Hoping my PC ships tomorrow. I’m looking into getting 32gb of ram cause my friend told me I should , but Is it necessary?
Or what other upgrades should I think about first? I know I haven’t even gotten the pc just want to have a head start on where I can put my money. I love everything I’m getting but nothing wrong with adding stuff:) please help thank you

What are you planning on using the computer for that you need 32 GB of memory?

I usually feel like 16 GB is the sweet spot which your system comes with.

You also have an RTX 2060 so that should be fine for now. At this point I would hold off with a new GPU since new ones are likely coming by the end of the year anyway.

I guess the best upgrade would be an NVMe drive as your primary boot drive assuming your MB supports that.

If you give more information on what you are using the computer for it should help people giving you some ideas on possible upgrades.

For gaming, you don't need more than 16 GB of memory, it's a waste. The game that can use more doesn't exist. You can game on a high frame rate 1080p monitor with a Lynx 3 for several years.

You do have an M.2 slot on your motherboard that you could use for an NVMe SSD as Ariktu mentioned, but I recommend you just see how you like your gaming as is before you make any moves.

Right i totally see what all of you guys are saying for the most part I will be streaming and gaming and maybe even recording at the same time. I do not see myself having many tabs open or programs open all at once besides those. So I just figured the more the better, but as yall say, if it isnt necessary then I can put my money elsewhere or just stay patient.

let me know your thoughts

If you have the budget there is nothing ** wrong ** with getting the 32GB. I have 32GB because I use Lightroom and Photoshop on occasion and wanted the system to be as snappy as possible when using those programs with 20MB+ RAW files.

Adding the RAM should be a very simple upgrade if you decide to do it.

Truly spoken, I stand corrected.

Please be sure to let us know what year you achieve that optimal experience now, won't you?

I know SC has gotten a lot of bad reputation, but lately they have been more communicative and more transparent in the work they do. They are now releasing new versions every quarter, which is a pretty big plus. It's become more of a playable game now with trading, smuggling, fighting in space, mercenary missions, bounty hunts (sometimes bad players pop up, and you gotta serve justice sometimes), and etc. Now they have a prison system which came out recent patches ago (Kind of broken, I wouldn't suggest going to prison). All of these mechanics are not perfect and definitely needs work, but it's fun to experience with friends whenever a Rover clips through the ship's pad and goes crazy lol. The scale of a world is pretty insane and we went to a mountainy planet and did Tumbril races, pretty much warthogs if I had to compare. I'm not trying to shill their game, but I personally enjoy it with my HOTAS with a full crew and the game is beautiful. Optimization has been a big problem, but now it's gotten better after they switched over to Lumberyard, which is pretty much an extended version of Crytek's engine (CryEngine). There was also the whole debacle of Crytek suing RSI for switching engines which they are saying is violating their prior contract (TL;DR they just did this because they were desperate and on verge of bankruptcy). TBQH, I would not recommend to anyone to buy it as it currently is. Maybe try it out in a year or two if it's still around (They definitely have the funding to make it possible). All I can tell you is that the game is eyecandy. Once my build comes in from DS, who knows how long lol, I will take a screenshot of it with the build.

I, for one, don't mind at all if you shill the game. I have been a Chris Roberts fan for 30 years, and I feel his team is just trying to get it RIGHT. But what's it been? Nine years, and still in ALPHA? I'm gettin' too old for this (literally)!

Haha it has been in alpha for a reallllllly long time. Recent changes made things a little more fun and actual things to do in the game. I remember when you could only be in one small area for the longest time lol. They recently announced Warp Gates or something like that which will let you travel between solar systems. Can't wait until the game universe is expanded further.
