I am sharing this more as a warning, so others don't fall through the "windows" like I did.

I installed another 8G of ram, bringing the total to 16G. This allows me to install some programs I have wanted to use in tandem and try a few things concerning the Win10 browser rendering engine Since they are deleting the IE11 engine in Win10. Along with this I installed an infrared camera and fingerprint reader. And, here starts the dilemma.

Windows suggests I run the driver verifier - "verifier". I do and all drivers are verified. All good, right? WRONG! After running verifier my computer slowed down in doing anything and everything by about 40%!! (1st warning for you guys)

OK, easy fix - restore to before I ran verifier. Wrong - restore failed! Hmmmm, Lets try the next restore. Restore failed!

Now, it's on to the next step. Windows says 'refresh' will refresh windows and not mess with my stuff. This sounds good. Wrong! (second warning for you guys)

Windows technical writers need a refresher course or a course in English!

Windows refreshed 8.1, deleted over half my stuff and put a cutesy folder on desktop with a list of what it removed. How convenient! I at least know what 143 programs, drivers and apps they 'refresh-ingly'- uninstalled for me while they 'didn't mess with my files'. (third warning for you guys)

Well, it's time to run 'back up' and restore my computer to the way it was before I so foolishly trusted windows to take care of me. (did I mention I don't like Win 8.1?)

"Windows cannot restore this back-up"! Oh, how sweet!! They didn't say a back-up will NOT work after a 'refresh'!! (4th warning for you guys)

So now it is fun time again, I'll just wipe the drives and reinstall windows (and the 167 updates) and completely re-do the way I utilize the SDD and HDD, then reinstall all my programs, connections, drivers, etc.   Success! *does a very tired and sleepy happy dance after nearly 40 hours of playing PVPC with windows.

Moral of the story: I should have followed my own advice to research before doing anything with/to my computer, even if I think I know what I am doing.

Vanquish II Ultimate.
I was laying in bed looking up at the stars and wondered "where is my ceiling?"

Sorry to hear above that.    What a huge pain.

Luckily you had the knowledge to fix it. Congrats.

Too late now, but ive never heard much good about driver verifiers and have stayed away.

Thanks for sharing.   Might help others.
