Hi,
My computer has just been hit with malware from outerinfo. Ever heard of this?  What do you recommend I do?
Any malware cleaners you recommend?

Having a restore point (even an infected one) to fall back on is critical.

2. Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/?WRSID=22d39f2f1ee2986307fbda97e7ef16d1 (It's a 14-day trial):
  • Click Download Now to download the program.
  • Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
  • Click the Sweep Options tab.
  • Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
    • Sweep Memory
    • Sweep Registry
    • Sweep Cookies
    • Sweep All User Accounts
    • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
    • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
    • Sweep for Rootkits
    • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
  • Click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.

If you do not have HiJack this I recommend getting it.

It is a very aggressive malware. It's messed up my system restore so that it's totally useless.  I had to delete my Internet Explorer connection and use firefox as my default.  It was trying to take over my whole computer. It made my keyboard stop working, my taskbar disappeared so there was no way I could shut down my machine safely-as to save files-after using the webroot software.  I saw it moving my pointer around on my computer and I hurried up and unplugged my ethernet connection. This is some really messed up stuff. I still don't think I got it out yet but at least the pop ups stopped and nobody is taking over my computer anymore.  What is wrong with people? Don't they have anything better to do?  How do you think I got this?

With the evolution of software and hardware there will be the evolved hacker.  It's the natural process of the fall of man.  Just as it is with any new car alarm, there will be thief schools with car thieves that learn advanced skills how to disarm the alarm.

I have seen thieves driving a flatbed tow truck all painted pretty with all the flashing lights and blinking signals pull up to a Porsche, lay orange cones down around the proximity, hook-up to it and drag the car, alarm screaming, onto the bed and take it away while a police car drove by and didn't even think twice about it... scary.

Sweaty little men in the Philippines in dark little huts writing code so they can hack credit data bases back in the states.  Hey, we created the need for all the code hackers out there.  I can't wait for the next round of security and spyware programs.  They ought to be real cool.

This is the world we live in... welcome.

Dead GRRRR!!! This malware won't go away!!!! I tried uninstalling IE7 but it's STILL popping up with the ads. I've tried spyware and registry cleaners and deleting/disabling anything I don't recognize.  My task manager "system" has a bunch of stuff running.  Is that normal?
Is there a professional service who will clean my computer for me?  Can they do this via remote assistance?  Can you recommend anyone?  I'm about to delete everything off my computer and just reinstall Windows but I can't find my cd to reinstall it. Pinch

I actually got "Spysweeper with AntiVirus, then you can download the firewall free.   It doesn't interfer with your windows firewall at all.  I have all 3 and let me tell you, there is no bogging at all.   The firewall itself takes up a hair of space and so does the sweeper and antivirus.   I suggest getting all 3.

Usually If I have tried everything and I can't get something out that I don't want, I usually end up reformating....getting the computer back to when I first had it.
