Have any of you guys used this ? One of the guys who I served with swore by it and I am currently trying to decide what to run when my new DS rig arrives. I know I cannot stand McAfee as I swear they slow down my computer and Norton basically takes over your system like a damn parasite latching to a host.
Anyway looking forward to hearing what you guys run because we all know you cant trust reviews from Magazine/Websites who have biased opinions or are on the payroll ![]() |

This won't help much, but I Use Norton. It's free with Comcast, never had a problem so that's it. ESET seems a popular choice.

Yeah from what he told me Malwarebytes is basically a anti spyware that I should run with ESET, but I just have never heard of, or heard anyone talk about Malwarebytes and before I installed it on a new rig I dropped 4 grand on I really want to be sure lol.
That's why I ask here, there is just an amazing quality of knowledge and friendly help that you just can't find on ANY other forum's. Edited by Sgt.Moore - 06 Jan 2012 at 5:01pm |

ESET. If you have constant internet connection, Webroot = super fast and light on your pc.

1 program is never enough for total coverage. Malwarebytes is a great secondary program but something like ESET NOD32 with a firewall and execution protection should be your primary protection program.
You just run Malwarebytes during your scheduled scans, you do not use it for active protection. Stopping threats before they infect your system is much more important then removing them after the fact. Malwarebytes is a removal tool, ESET NOD32 is a firewall and prevention tool. I also strongly suggest using any free program that is offered by your ISP regardless if it's Norton or anything else. Those versions are stripped down compared to their retail versions and ISPs have been known to use their special version of those programs to monitor your computer usage. There was a legal case about that very issue in the UK. The ISP used the free virus protection they offered to monitor non-internet activities of their customers. Some guy had a real protection program on his system along with the free one and he found out it was monitoring him because the real protection program kept flagging the ISP's virus protection as a keylogger. Let me clarify some things:
1. Malwarebytes is an anti spyware, its has real time protection (paid version) and works just like an anti virus but its not an anti virus and can't do what an anti virus does, and vise versa, an anti virus can't do what an anti spyware does. Now most apps like eset have anti spyware in them, however right now the best anti spyware is Malwarebytes. so as jm299 said along with others is that you want a good anti virus, anti spyware and firewall, eset is great at anti virus and firewall and Malwarebytes takes care of anti spyware protection, so you run both and you are good to go. just keep in mind with all of that 90% of your security depends on your commonsense, these apps can't protect you if you don't set them correctly or if you tell them to allow things they should not. Webroot had a great anti spyware (spysweeper) however now its an all in one app that sucks in anti virus and etc, so we no longer recommend it. Edited by DST4ME - 07 Jan 2012 at 12:13am |

+1 for Malwarebytes!
Free version,(quick scan) has been my most used cleanup tool next to ccleaner. It is not an anti-virus software, but it's a great program to run in tandem with a good A/V. Since I'm here I'll throw in a vote for Microsoft Security Essentials as my A/V of choice! |

when I got back from Korea my desktop that the wife and kids were using had a very nasty virus it got while I was paying for Kaspersky. Needless to say imho Kaspersky blows and I wouldn't depend on it to protect a fisher price baby computer that couldn't even connect to the net...
I used MB and another program to get rid of the virus and even though was paid up for another nine months ditched kaspersky for another paid program

My friend's grandfather had a computer that was less than two years old, but was really starting to slow down. He had Norton on it. I came over, ran Malwarebytes and Avast, and found almost 300 issues. The computer is doing so much better. I have never used ESET, but I have used Avast, Malwarebytes, Komodo, Avira, AVG, Parnda, Norton, Macafee, and MSE, and Malwarebytes and Avast are still my favorites.
