I was wondering if anyone had an issue using 1066 memory.  I figured that 800 would be less risky in terms of failure and temp, but I thought I'd see if anyone had an opinion.  Also, prob a dumb question, but the inside of the 980i case is red when you pick the model you want to cusomize, but during the customization process, it's all black.  Is red an option?

the red interior is a custom paint job, its extra, look on the list, they are near the bottom of the cases.

I have no idea about memory to be honest, the more i read up on it, the more confused i get, about mumbo jumbo about CPU core speeds and what have you effecting what type memory you should get cause if you overbuy the memory will just downclock to match the CPU, so while fine, its a waste of money obviously.

I could write pages about the memory/CPU speed matching mumbo jumbo, but I won't!  As far as failure and heat are concerned... there are bad sticks of memory in whatever kind you get.  DS uses Corsair which is one of the highest quality manufacturers of memory around.  The chances of you getting bad memory from them are slim... BUT it still can happen.

1066 memory is just 800 memory overclocked by Corsair.  They hand pick the 800 memory sticks that can run at 1066 stably.  There is nothing more or less risky about it really.

800MHz memory will most likely be just fine (I don't know what processor you plan on using though).
