8GB DDR3 1600MHz

or

12GB DDR3 1333MHz

or

What's the difference between a smaller amount of faster RAM or a larger amount of slower RAM?

What platform is this going to be on? If its sandy bridge 1600mhz is the sweet spot and advised to get. What will you be using the system for? If ur only gaming and do every day web browsing email you don't need more than 8gb of ram. Some would even argue 4gb is enough which it may be but i think its worth it to go for 8gb.

1600MHz for all setups after/including i7 9xx.

8GB is more then enough for gaming and other regular uses, surfing, downloading, sharing, light photo editing.

One only need more ram if they doing heavy duty media editing, designing, developing, vps, and things like that
