Currently running 6gb DDR3 1600. MB is an Asus Rampage 3 Extreme X58. CPU is Intel Core i7 965 extreme socket 1366 LGA clocked at 3.8Ghz.
Want to upgrade memory, can I go 4 4gig for a total of 16gigs? or do I need to go 2 6gigs for a total of 121 ... or max of 24gigs. Also any input as to brand and speed? Thanks in advance Chuck

That's a tri channel mobo so populate the three red ram slots. Off the top I would say 3x4gb DDR3 1600Mhz. Unless your into apps that can use it, you won't need more than that.
Sometimes filling all the ram slots, 6 in your case, can lead to problems because of stress on memory controller. Not sure in your case, however. |
