so as of recently i have been working my butt off, trying to get GTA 4 Maxed out and running somewhere between a stable 60 FPS and close to 100 FPS. from what i can see, SLI MEANS NOTHING to this game. and my framerates increased by lets say 10. so the problem im having here, is not the fact that im not seeing a gain in SLI, its the fact that with my specs, im only getting 30 - 45 FPS in this game Upset. now it may sound like im bragging or something. but i considered my computer to be pretty high up. and i mean come on for this what 2 - 3 year old game cant be blown away. is just completely absurd. So my question to you guys out there. do you think i should begin doing some more overclocking to reach my goal? My GPU's are back at stock clocks now, because i am having trouble keeping them stable. any advice would be helpful.

GTA Iv is a badly optimized game, its also just a port. So even the finest artwork of a pc may only get 80 fps on it because no one at R* took any time with it.

yeah, i have heard that just about everywhere. but i have seen some people with some very surprising framerates. and have wondered why i cant get that.

You have a very beefy system. I would say that the people that claim very high frame rates are not running the game at the same visual details or resolution you are.

Ok well gta4 needs a bit more vram if you want to max it like that, and sli does not combine vram. So IMHO if you had dual sli 570 2.5GB or dual sli 580 3GB for that game, you would have better performance, but at the end optimization is not that great either with that game.

which was my main goal from the start, but when i bought the 580's the 3GB model wasnt out yet. i kinda wish there was some sort of trade up program out there Disappointed

meh I would not upgrade 580s to 3GB 580s big waste of money, new gpus are coming out 2012 look at those but in all honesty I would not upgrade 580s till 2013 or something.


if you look around there are some patches and mods that are suppose to help. AS mentioned the game itself is not well optimized.
