Well since I don't use my 5 year old computer much, and that right now my laptop is my main computer, I need a really good rig, here's the usual....

Budget- $1500, someone prefers $1000. No accessories, but my monitor is 1280x1024, would I need a new one?

I expect it to render videos quickly (1080p), e.g. Not an hour for 3mins of footage, and be able to upgrade it a bit in the distant future.

Environment's not that dusty but I have dogs....and I would like an i7 core and a good over-clock, and I would like some good space for videos.

Do I need to add more information?

Here is my current one I'm looking at:-

Great choice on the case. those HAF cases are really good air flow
How ever, that build would've been great few months ago but i wouldnt recommend it.
lga 1156 is almost considered dead technology.
only a few more boards are coming out in the future.

I'd recommend going to lga1155 sockets, not just because they are new.
but they are actually very well designed.

Before i config something , what is this pc mainly going to be used for ?

the K series are great for overclocking, they stay cool as well.
I recommend going over to LGA1155 socket vs. the LGA 1156.

$1,000 Budget. The issue begins with your current monitor. It's max resolution will limit you and the build above. a GTS 450 will be enough for gaming on that resolution and some more. the GTS 450 some will consider even going over kill on that.
you can add additional 2GB DDR3 memory in the future, and change your drive to a SSD drive (I don't recommend going below 50GB for boot, 64bit OS uses up 13-20GB)
and this system will still last you.
If you decide to change the GPU in the future now you're stuck with upgrading the PSU.
your current build at 1500 budget is a good budget vs. 1,000 atm.
You dont need the WD 500GB Black for storage, Fast drives arnt necessary for storage.
and as for wireless if you have a wireless router and would like to go wireless for your pc (not sure why anyone would for gaming , I go nuts over lag) you would need a wireless adapter unless the motherboard comes with one built in.

This build will only be a good choice if you upgraded your monitor to something with a higher resolution.

Well this pc is going to be used for, school assignments, hardly any gaming (no need at high settings), some video editing and rendering, but most of the time it's just surfing on the web.

I'm interested in the $1000 desktop, I might look into that.

Hmm ok I'll consider your advice, especially the wireless one, do you know which motherboards have that?

usually asus comes out with something for htpc lovers with built in wireless motherboards.
if major gaming isnt into your play, the 1,000 config i set up is perfect for you. You might even want to save a few more in cost and get the dual core Sandy bridge rather than the one i picked which is quad core.
with the way it's set you can still upgrade in the future for more power as well.
I'd recommend looking for a 32bit Win7 , which you probably can get by just calling Digitalstorm.

Remember they could also do custom orders over the phone that is not listed on the site. IE. you can request for a smaller SSD drive, vertex 2 50gb as boot w/ 32bit Win7 would work fine,

For a $1000 you are not gonna be able to get everything you want, unfortunately the build kyu has posted has issues and won't work, you should also concider how long you want to own this pc and how long you want it feel powerful.

we can try and config one for you but its not gonna be close to $1500 depending on how long you want to own this pc and how long you want it feel powerful.

all ssds are not the same so you just dont want to order any ssd and put in your pc.

Okay than....I just want a better one than my laptop that is more responsive, I'd like to own this PC for at least a few years, I don't really care that much about it's powerfulness, other than having a good and reliable graphics card and a good processor.

If that's the case then I won't mind you choosing any other HD then.
But if you can, I'd appreciate a computer within that $1500 budget.

Thanks.
