Just got my new system in today, got it up and running, and it's great. However, the Systems applet in Control Panel and my CPUMonitor applet both show the CPU speed as 3.4 gHz, which is stock. I paid the $49 extra to get the 4.0-4.4 gHz overclocking. So did I not get it, or am I not looking at it with the right utility, or what ?

Also - and this is really super-noober, I can't figure out how to get the CD/DVD drive open. There doesn't seem to be a button on it like every other CD drive I have ever had. Oh the shame...but I sure would like to install SC2 and check out my awesome graphics...

Sorry for the noob questions, but tech support is closed til Monday, so I am throwing myself on ya'lls mercy...:)

Are you running CPU-z and looking at core speed?

you didn't specify specs.

Sorry, my build config is 610021.

I've never used CPU-z, but I downloaded it and installed it (v1.58, Apr 2011). It says "1600 mHz" in the Core Speed box, but sometimes it changes to "4200 mHz". I am a total noob on these new hot Intel CPUs, but I'm guessing that the CPU speed is variable based on load ? I guess this means that they were able to OC it to 4.2 gHz ?

Now if I could only figure out how to open my CDROM drive.../sigh....

Thanks!!!

You got it, what you have enabled is "speedstep" which lets the cpu rest and only jumps to oc speed when the power is needed.

do me a favor run cpuz and do some browsing and tell me if during normal browsing it jumps up from 1600MHz or if it stays there, thank you.

ok can't tell which bd player you have, is it liteon?

if you right click it under "my computer" and choose eject you can open it that way.

Yes, it sometimes changes to 4200 mHz when I am loading screens or playing a video in the browser, then flips back to 1600 pretty quick.

Pretty sure it is a LiteON, though it doesn't say it on the front of the drive. It says "Super Multi Drive" on the left front side, and has a big "LG" in the middle front, and "BluRay Disc" on the right front side. However, it is not the same drive as shown in the "More Info" section of my config (610021). That pic says "LiteOn" on the front. It also has a volume dial, open button, and paper-clip hole below the tray (as every other CDROM drive I have ever seen has). Mine does *not* have anything under the tray, which is really strange....

Yes, that opened it, although that is really weird to have to do it that way...At least it works...I'm installing SC2 now.

Thanks for the info on the browsing and oc, really appreciate it , next time somebody asks me about it I now what to say.

so you got the LG driver then, is this it?

if so you see that little break at the bottom right in the silver line that goes across, I believe that is the button.

To be honest I like the right click and "eject" or "close tray", that way I don't have to move from my spot, of course I still have to move to put the media in, but I think win8 will have the optional robotic arm that loads for it for you

OMG, you are right - how embarrassing !!! My old eyes just couldn't pick that up in this dim room, although it is quite clear in the pic you posted.

Thanks a bunch - you made my day !!!
