Hi, I'm a MMORPG player looking to upgrade my laptop. Currently I raid in WoW and will likely be switching over to SWTOR in the future. I currently play on a 3 year old acer with low to medium settings. I could likely push them higher for general use, but I don't like to risk frame rate drop during raids. Raid framerates are kind of the benchmark for me, and I'd like to see things alot prettier (i.e the max or ultra settings). Also improtiant is my latencey, so if there is any benfit in network card upgrades, I'd also be looking for advice here (as well, though it is a little off topic, any recommended wireless routes that could potential help with this). I've done a bit of reaseach, and, as I understand it, MMO's aren't really all that grapically intensive, but I'm not the most tech savvy person, so I'm having a hard time selecting what processor and video card will achieve my goals with WoW, and SWTOR in the future. I don't want to drop a wad of cash on cards or processers that won't give me tangible benefit for my use. That said, I don't was a second tier card or processer that will cause framerate dips during raid when spell effects are going and there's fire I need to get out of. So, after this wall of text, what you guys ask for
BUDGET: I'd like to keep it under $1,500, but am flexable if required. Again, If my requirements can be met for 1,000 bucks, all the better!
EXPECTATIONS: This will be mainly for gaming. I'll likely use my old laptop for multimedia storage, play back and most web surfing. I also play over a wireless connection so optimizing wireless network cards/wireless routers is valuable to me. 17" monitor at a minimum.
USAGE: World of Warcraft for now, SWTOR in the future.
I plan to use this laptop for 3-5 years min, so if some small ungrades now that may be a bit of overkill will allow my to maintain high settings in the future, I'd consider these as well. I guess it's kind of hard to predict the future though :(
In terms of what I have been looking at, the base x17 with a wireless network card upgrade is what I was thinking, though I have no idea if it's overkill or won't meet my performance requirements.
Thanks for your time :)
