I was just curious as to what you guys think about hybrid drives, like the momentus one, as a viable cheaper alternative to SSD
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/laptops/laptop-hdd How does it work with MMOs, where you're loading a lot of terrain etc? Edited by Burnt - 02 Sep 2010 at 5:49pm |

the thing seems to work well, still have to get some first hand accounts though. remember that the NAND memory has an adaptive controller though, mmo's will only load fast if you access it constantly and the drive adapts to stick it into the NAND cell.
also take note that the drive is a 2.5" drive for laptops, you need an adapter to stick it into a desktop. Edited by ablahblah - 02 Sep 2010 at 7:12pm |

I'm ordering my comp this weekend and now there are more options?!?
I'm getting an 80g Intel SSD for boot, etc. what about the 500g seagate hybrid offered now by DS? is it worth it in everyone's opinion? i will never need 1tb in my comp.

It's still completely horrible compared to a SSD, do not bother considering. For the most part it is just VelociRaptor level performance. Makes a good laptop HDD though, in case an SSD is not an option because you need a lot of space. |
