So I have 2 8800 ultras in SLI. I have some money to spare and someone who wants to buy my ultras. It would probably cost me the amount of one GTX 280 to get a total of 2 so I can run them in SLI. Is it worth stepping up to SLI'd GTX 280s? Am I going to see much of an improvement over my Ultras? I would keep everything else in my system the same. I run my games on 1920x1200. |

Yes, there will be a large increase in performance, and I would do it while you have a buyer, since your Ultras will not get more valuable with time.

TBH, I really do not know much about the second hand GPU market. Generally, by the time I upgrade a card, they are worth as much as those mini pinball games in a box of cracker jacks. I usually buy entry level and ride it out until it won't play something I want it to at even low settings. Even considering a higher end card is something I would not have done until recently. Maybe Sunfighter can give some idea. That guy seems to change his GPU at least twice a month.

$150-$200 is what I would expect but you can get $300 if you are extremely lucky or had XFX. (for each card) Edited by skyR - 18 Jul 2008 at 12:40pm |

Yeah... I mean to cover the cost of at least one would be my goal in the least. I don't know, I have only had these Ultras since September. Is there a new nvidia GPU coming out in the next 6 months? I'll put my money on yes, and at that point ill be envious of people with those. Trying to convince myself this would be worth it.
