Been looking at two different monitors..thinking about changing my samsung t240 out. between the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M or the LG 27ea63v IPS led. the resoultion on the 27 is 1920x1080.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2412M-LED-Monitor/dp/B005JN9310/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363051905&sr=8-1&keywords=ultrasharp http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005407 Is the image going to be sharper looking on the dell because of the higher resolution? i have seen the LG model in person and its very nice looking and it only has a 5ms response time. as for the dell it has an 8 and most ppl say its okay for gaming i have seen some ppl say they see ghosting. curious on peoples thoughts. thanks Kernols *edit* added links Edited by kernols - 11 Mar 2013 at 6:42pm |

Nobody here with a dell ultra shap sees ghosting I can tell you that.
Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity. 1. response time is a bs number, its there to fool you and does not represent the true response time of the monitor, there is no real way of truly finding what response time is, the closest to it is white to white but you don't see that, you see grey to grey or black to black cause they give small numbers to fool users but they don't mean anything, there are different methods to get these numbers also, and each will give a different number as results, therefore you can even compare one to the other, cause we don't know what method was used for which, and even if we did, still GTG or BTB don't mean anything. 2. contrast ratio is also bs number. the led of Dell is going to be superior, it has a higher res because its a wide screen monitor, its also a class one lag monitor which means that its great for fps games. Keep in mind this panel is made by LG. that lg monitor I know nothing about nor can I find anything on it, I would stay away from that monitor. Edited by DST4ME - 11 Mar 2013 at 11:05pm |

I went from a 20" 1920x1080 Ultra Sharp, to a 24" 1920x1200 Ultra Sharp with the 20" as a second monitor. I can't remember the exact temp increase that I got from going from 1920x1080 to (1920x1200 + 1920x1080) but It was not much. I thought I had it written down somewhere but I can't seem to find it, I think it was around 1.5-2.5C. I have SLI 580s. I do not game on both monitors, but the secondary monitor always has stuff pulled up on it while gaming.

You could try the Asus vh238h it has a 2ms response time but the input lag is like 7ms same as the Asus Vh236h which was really popular back when MLG was using it for games. The only difference between the two is the 238 is led backlit. I see no ghosting or lag and i see no backlight bleed. Some of the IPS panels suffer from IPS Glow which is probably what that is

Its the dell you have an issue with? which one did you get? dell is very good with replacing.
@Aw777 1. response time is a bs number, its there to fool you and does not represent the true response time of the monitor, there is no real way of truly finding what response time is, the closest to it is white to white but you don't see that, you see grey to grey or black to black cause they give small numbers to fool users but they don't mean anything, there are different methods to get these numbers also, and each will give a different number as results, therefore you can even compare one to the other, cause we don't know what method was used for which, and even if we did, still GTG or BTB don't mean anything. Looks like the U2412M.
Definitely got some back-light bleeding issues from the looks of it, hopefully Dell was easy to work with. I've had great results with their support people in regards to monitors in the past. |

Well i received my new monitor today. i still have a small orangish glow coming from the top left. its not as bad as the previous and it doesn't really show up during anything except a pure black screen. ive done some looking around in forums and it seems its common with these. either a hit or miss.

ive never seen that before in an IPS monitor..... kind of reminds me of the early days of Flat panel TV's when some thing went wrong magnetically and gives off a faint green glow on a corner.

ive heard of manufactures sending back the same product untouched, or "refurbished" and its like they never touched it. However i have to say this is a new issue to me. Also reminds me of the "OPOD" orange pixel of doom during the SWTOR betas lol.

That glow looks substantially diminished compared to your first image. I'd recommend experimenting with the brightness settings of the monitor to see if that helps. Some UltraSharps can be quirky out of the box, especially if they are refurbs, and thus need some fine-tuning in the settings. Others are A-Ok from day one and never need to be touched. At the end of the day, you need to be satisfied with your product, so if your not pleased, I'd call them again.

Yeah i ended up calling and have another coming tomorrow..1 day shipping again. they are being great so ill just keep doing this lol. i went through 7 tv's before because of issues like this...i was pretty upset but like Solidus said im paying for a quality product. I played around with the settings for about 2 hours this morning..and nothing worked. i noticed with these monitors the brightness out of the box are way to high

You may have to do some adjusting, its different for everybody, I like mine bright for example.
I have never seen the glow before, it maybe to do with the u2412M, that is their lowest model 24". |

I did some searching, you can a lot of people talking about blacklight bleeding issues with the U2412M, so hopefully you aren't troubled by it too much more. I have had any issues with the U2410, which is precisely why I have no intentions of changing it anytime soon.
