    Posted: 06 Mar 2009 at 1:00am

I just bought a Dell 2408wfp Monitor and my machine is being built which will have a GTX295 card in it. I currently use a Monster DVI cable to connect my monitor and am planning on using it for this machine also but realized I now have an HDMI option. Is my thinking right that there would be no benefit in using HDMI since I am not pumping sound into my monitor? My thought is that digital is digital and both types of cable would produce the same results. Is ther any benefit to going to HDMI that I am not aware of?

well hdmi is a bit better but the hdmi output on the 295 does not post, so you will be connecting via dvi anyways.

What do you mean "does not post". Are you saying it is disabled?

I think he's saying that it won't display the BIOS text screens that you normally see during startup.

As far as quality of image, unless you have studio quality display panels costing tens of thousands of dollars you will never be able to see the difference between DVI and HDMI anyway.

The major difference between the two is that HDMI includes audio information in its spec and DVI does not have it.

There are some slight specification tweaks, but like I said, you need an eagle eye and a monitor far better than even a top tier gaming monitor to see the difference.

Here is an article on the subject:
