Guys, I'm currently running a single GTX 580 1.5GB gpu with a Dell U2311 monitor at 1920x1080 resolution. I play BFBC2 mutiplayer at 16x AF and 16x MSAA and high settings with no problems. With BF3 soon coming out I was thinking about maybe upgrading my monitor to a Dell U2711 at 2560x1440 or a Dell U3011 at 2560x1600 resolution.
So here's my questions: 1) would one GTX 580 1.5GB be able to run games at 16xAF and 16xMSAA and high settings on either the U2711 or U3011 at their maximum resolutions? 2) if the answer to 1) above is no, would two (SLI) GTX 580 1.5GB's be able to? Thanks for your input.

we really dont know for sure what the requirements will be but its safe to say the answer to that question is going to be no. As your resolution increases though the need to run high AA is decreased so you dont really need to crank it up that high. having 2 sli'd 580's should do good considering that they cant expect everyone spend $800+ on video cards to run the game. The best we can hope is the game scales very well at all settings. One other concern is v-ram, at that resolution you may start to hit it.

Thanks, Rice. I figured that I'd probably need two 580's to take advantage of the bigger monitors. I wasn't aware though that I could lower my settings with the better resolution. So I'm guessing I could go 4xAF and 8xMSAA. As you said, we'll know in October what will work.
Thanks again for the info. Edited by heritage1550 - 26 Aug 2011 at 1:43pm |

For higher res and high aa you gonna want sli and more vram, which you are limited to 1.5GB but I think with sli should be able to pull off 4xaa in some games.
