Topic: Monitor Help - Before the Trigger! Posted: 13 May 2009 at 3:18pm |
Finally have some cash to upgrade from my 27" Sharp 720P HDTV. I have not officially decided if I want a monitor or a 32" 1080P HDTV but I am pretty sure I want a monitor. I really do not want to sacrifice screen size though, even 25.5" seems a little small after gaming on a 27" for so long but I do want a higher resolution.
This is what I am looking for... $700.00 LIMIT 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 resolution Nothing smaller than a 25.5" screen size Nothing bigger than a 32" screen size Edited by A7X-Shane - 26 May 2009 at 4:40am |

I think I might be pulling the trigger on one of these two amazing deals. Which is better?

In that price range, this is a great monitor. Watch the price, it has been for $700 shipped.
Love mine, NEC has the next level up from the Planar. but it is $400-$500 more, for small improvements. Edited by justin.kerr - 26 May 2009 at 9:51am |

Thanks for the input man but I think I may be going with the Samsung.
The 32" screen size will dwarf the 26". The 70,000:1 contrast ratio will out-show the 1,000:1 any day. The 6ms response time will be there, unnoticed, and so will the 5ms one. The 1920 x 1080 has an aspect ratio more movie friendly than the 1920 x 1200. If I lean towards the Sharp, I'll get that extra Blu-ray drive as well. Still, a good suggestion none the less. |

i have the LN32A550 and i can tell you it's great, and i'm pretty sure the B550 is just a beefed up A550. Very good TV, very clear picture. Looks very sleek as well. Hooked up my comp to it and the text is crystal clear and (of course) games look great too. Colors are awesome. A few of my friends picked up the same model and they all love it too. Can't go wrong, i say.
Good for TV too, and HD console gaming looks awesome :) Oh, not to mention if you're a sports guy, handles pretty much all sports with relatively little ghosting/blurring when the camera pans. Still there, but (depending on the channel) usually barely. Edited by sdelu - 26 May 2009 at 6:35pm |

Thanks, I think I may very well be going with the Samsung then.
Although an extra $50 for a Blu-ray player is a hell of a deal, I find it sketchy that Sharp will not display what the contrast ratio and a few other important details are.. You would think that a $2,000.00(Retail) television would be listed with all the bells and whistles with exact numbers for all to see. Instead, they give a very broad description of what the bells and whistles are like..? Example: Samsung In Description: "along with a 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio that contributes to superior picture quality" In Specifications: "Dynamic Contrast Ratio 70,000:1" Sharp In Description: "Sharp's proprietary Spectral Contrast Engine UD (Ultra Dark) provides high contrast ratio and deep black levels" In Specifications: "UD (Ultra Dark)" Is the Sharp just a special television that they cannot measure or something? |

I would love for that to be my monitor, and I've wanted it for a long time now.
I ruled it out though for two simple reasons. Price: $1999.99 is way over my $700.00 limit. Resolution: 2560x1600 is going to not play nice with two 260's. By that I mean about half the current (good) titles will be at unplayable frame rates. As new games come out, I'm sure I'll be left behind rather quickly. |
