First of all, I honestly doubt you'll notice a difference between 2 and 5ms response time; it's just too little a difference.
Acer, Dell and Samsung are all good brands IMO. But, what is your budget? |

dont really have a budget but right now the monitor im looking at is the ASUS MS228H or the ML228H which is the same monitor with a stand but i want to know if there is better... if its even good if it is a good monitor for what i want then i probably wouldnt want to spend much more then that but if there is a huge difference then id pay more

if the best contrast and sharpness is what youre after, id look for a glossy screen. which means stick to samsung or LG

i just seen on the recommended monitors even though it seems like they are all older but the Planar PX2611W is it good i seen it had a 500 brightness instead of the usual 250 300 ik its more expensive but again i really care about price if there is a big difference also i was thinking about it too and another factor would be the input lag idk if that is the same as the response time? i dont think it is but ive heard people complain about that stuff with certain tvs and wanted to know about the monitors if they have that if so id want lowest

glossy's definitely the best for contrast, most of the times. the weird thing is, I'm using an HP ZR22W with an IPS panel, with a matte screen. looks and works extremely well for me.

CStormO, the recommended monitors hasn't been updated in over a year, so those prices and monitors are old. There are only a few places that even still sell that Planar, so you aren't going to find a great price on it. There are better monitors out there now for the money. Read some of the other more recent threads in this section about monitors to give you an idea.
I agree with ablahblah. I also have a HP ZR series monitor, and they have excellent contrast and colors with the matte screen. If you are using it mainly for consoles though, I might look into something with an HDMI port and a 16:9 aspect ratio at 1920x1080 with a glossy screen. The HP does not have HDMI and is 16:10 at 1920x1200 native resolution (might have bars or weird stretching with consoles; i don't use mine for consoles so i really don't know). I have had no problems gaming with an IPS at all, even though the response time is slower than standard TN panels. The benefit of the IPS is that the screen looks the same when you look at it from an angle like most TV's. TN computer monitors change colors real bad when you're not looking at it straight-on. The benefit to a TN panel is the very fast response times and cost much less. Samsung, LG, and HP all make excellent TN panels. ASUS, ACER, and ViewSonic all make good panels for cheaper with decent reviews. If I were you, I would probably just go to a Best Buy or somewhere like that and look at a bunch of monitors in person. Buying a monitor is very subjective. Many people will love a monitor that you hate and you will love monitors that others do not. P.S. - As said before, you won't notice any difference between 5ms and 2ms response time. Don't get too hung up on all the "specs" out there. There are just way too many ways to measure that stuff. There is no standard. Some companies love to modify their testing to inflate the specs. |

no one needs IPS monitors, its a preference, and its more about budget than most other things really
as far as the viewing angles, i dont really see how that makes any difference unless you have a more than 30" screen and are sitting too close or you insist on walking around the room using a wireless keyboard when you are using your computer, rofl.

Bro, as everyone is stating here, no one can "tell" you what to buy and what will be "best" for you. As stated already, both IPS and TN panels work well dependent upon the users needs. You, being the user, will have to determine what's best.
As stated, go to the retailer and test drive both panels and get the best well rounded opinion that you can come up with... then purchase. I use a 24" Samsung TN panel and I sit in front of the computer. I'm very pleased with the monitor. However, as has been stated, if you're walking around your room with all your wireless gear hanging from every orifice in your body, then you may want an IPS panel so you can see your monitor in all its glory from a 90 degree angle from 12 feet away. In all seriousness though, my friend, YMMV. So, go and do diligence and find out what works best for you. Sometimes the best answer one can give you here is too not give you the answer. Go do a try-buy and you'll get your answer. |

On a TN panle, if you move you head a 1/4 of an inch, the change of view dramatically changes what you see/don't see on the screen.

I think so, many times with a TN panel, you have to move your head to see low contrasting objects, or objects in low light. Play on a TN panel for a long time and you get use to it, and everything seems fine. Play on a decent monitor and same thing, but go back to a TN and holy crap.. lol
TN panel offer a very good value, no question about it, and to get a decent monitor the price jumps up so much, that it makes it a hard decision, I know, lol I have went through 12 TN panels trying to find one that looks decent, and plays games ok, never found one.
Still have, and use 3 samsungs, 1 23.5", and 2 25.5" and also a god awful Sceptre 24" to show people what not to get.

I use a 24" NEC (not sure model number) and it has 5 or 6 ms, and I don't see anything. 3 ms seems way too low for you to notice anything.

i have a dell u2410 and it is excellent. it's a bit on the expensive side at $599. but for "me" it was worth it. i haven't noticed any ghosting issues playing xbox or pc games on it. it's worth a look at. dell also has pretty frequent deals i bought mine for %499, so if your patient you can save hundred on it.
