Hey guys, I found this
Acer GD235HZ Black/Orange 3D 23.6in Wide 2MS 80000:1 DVI HDMI LCD Monitor for $189.00 (refurbished}. It seems to be going for $350 or so new.
I was wondering if you think it's worth taking the risk and jumping on it, or if I should try to stick with a new non-3D monitor. I'm looking to spend about $200 and currently don't REALLY plan on needing the 3D at this time, but this way if I decide to try out 3D I don't need to buy a new monitor later. I know that for the 3D to work, I need the special glasses and whatnot, but wondering if it's worth the price just to use as 2D gaming monitor and have the option for 3D. My video card will be a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti. I can post the rest of my build specs if you guys need them. |

I have the Asus VG236 and I rarely use it for gaming. The 3d option was cool for about a week and then it fell flat. I personally thought it was a pain trying to balance enough depth to enjoy the 3d element but still make the game playable. Little things that you don't think about screw up the 3d experience, for example I play a lot of WoW and the unit frames mess up the screen depth and if you use a lot of add-ons that have great options like scrolling battle text and such those things interfere with it too. I suppose after extensive work things could improve but overall I felt game play was better the old fashion way. Some people have stated they felt they had an edge in games like BFBC2 but this was complete opposite of my experience. I found it made my game play much worse. And for not being in 3d, the monitors quality just doesn't compare either.
I mean don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool at first, but after a day or so it's just not worth the headache. I only post this because I wish someone would have talked me out of it and convinced me to buy a normal hd monitor instead. |

awesome, thanks for the post I think i'll just try to find a better 2D monitor, since really that's what I planned on using anyway. The price on that thing just tempted me to at least give 3D a look.

Response time and contrast ratio are BS numbers, don't pay attention to them, they are there to fool you.

yeah, I saw some other posts here saying that, decided on the Asus VH236h it seems to have pretty decent reviews and should do me fine for gaming for the time being.
