Topic: Monitor QuestionPosted: 10 Nov 2008 at 9:26am |

Hi, 3 Questions:
I've gathered that the max res my pc will run well is 1440, so my first question is does the size of the monitor matter? If I could find a 17" and a 24" and the native res is 1440, will my pc run them the same?
If I were to buy this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116400 (1920x1080), could I just play at a lower res, or will that distort the image too much? I'd like to be able to double duty with PS3 and BluRay. Anyone own this monitor?
Thanks in advance.

How old is your computer? Actually just post some of the more important specs if you can.
I always thought most cards could handel 2560x1600. Not saying well but they can. Im trying to figure out what you mean by, "I'd like to be able to double duty with PS3 and BluRay." Care to explain more? |

I've got a phenom 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 9800gtx+
That montior has HDMI, and speakers, so I'd be able to hook up my PS3 when my girlfriend is watching something stupid on my flat screen.

Oh ok.
Well your 9800GTX+ will run over the res you mentioned before. Is there a specific reason you want to run in that res? |

I want to run as high as I can, but someone in another post mentioned that at 1650 I'd need 2 gpu's to run at max settings well.

It really depends on the game.
What game's do you usually play? |

Right now I'm playing Hellgate London.
But if I get a monitor that's 1920x1080, can I play at lower resolutions and have it look ok?

Ya, thats no problem. The resolution it says is its maximum. So 1920x1080 is its maximum resolution.
But you can choose the resolution on the game itself so you can have the res at 1920x1080 when your just surfing the web. When you start the game it will load to its default settings which you can choose a different res. for. |

Will that distort the image a whole lot? I'm really new to serious pc gaming, so I appreciate you clarifying for me.

I have a 9800 gtx also, I play Hellgate ALOT! Also, i run at max resolution with no issues. And im using a 24" LG Flatron, so with that monitor go all out. Should not be any issues.

Well, to my knowledge, it depends on what resolution you choose.

I run my resolution at 1920x1200, i should note i have the OC2 version of the 9800 GTX too. All setting are very high and high, and thats with AA turned on.
Its also sad that they're shutting down the online servers for multiplayer. Got the email just a few days ago :(

Yeah, it's BS, hopefully it won't be long before Diablo 3 comes out, but not sure how I'll fill my time till then.
How much better is your OC2 than my +?

9800 GTX+ is better than a BFG's 9800 GTX OC2.
The 9800 GTX+ core clock is 735 iirc compared to a BFG 9800 GTX OC2 at 720 iirc. |
