I have been told that gaming on a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 is just amazing.  I have three questions:

For those of you currently gaming on a 30" monitor, is 2560x1600 gaming really that great?  What 30" monitor would you recommend?

My third question is would the i7 Extreme 3 pre-made system push most games well at this resolution?

i7 Extreme 3:

Overclocked Stable to 3.6GHz
FREE CPU Liquid Cooling
Includes Windows 7 Installed
Processor: Intel Core i7 960
Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz
Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE
Graphics: 2x SLI Dual GTX 295
Power Supply: Silent 1200W

I have about $4-6k total to spend for the monitor and the computer.

The games I am most interested in playing right now:  Dragon Age, Borderlands, Fallout 3 (played on console but always wished I could have played on CPU), Diablo III.

Never played crisis but heard it was a beautiful game.  I like first person shooters on occasion but usually because they push the graphics limits the most.

Any suggestions on a system and monitor for me?  Case and lighting are not important to me.

Thank you in advance,

--AOM

IMO for a 30" you are better off waiting for the new nvidia cards.

Thanks as always DST4ME!

I guess I can wait a few months.  Rumor mill has the NVIDIA's coming out sometime in Q1 next year.  You can chase vide cards forever but I have heard that a 30" is a lot more demanding so I'll wait.

Dragon age on my 1280x800 laptop is a little painful but luckily the game is great.  Hopefully it will keep me busy for a month or two through the holidays.  Then I guess I have Mass Effect 2 coming out in late January.

We'll see.  Thanks for taking the time to price out some options.  I'll come back and ask you again when the new cards hit the shelves.

Any recommendations on a 30"?

Thanks again,

--AOM

I'm not great with monitors, but people like justin who are say that you should look for a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and above 170°.

the Dell 3007WFP-HC was recommended a few times on this board, apparently its a great monitor.

the fermi should be out by end jan IMO. keeping fingers crossed
