    Posted: 03 Dec 2009 at 11:12pm

I'm looking into a monitor for my DS rig. Budget is a serious consideration, $600.00 or less is my budget.

Some gaming, but my DS rig will be primarily for Photography processing and video editing.

I am presently interested in the HP LP2475W 24in LCD Monitor 1920X1200

This is an "IPS" variant, "TFT", "16:10" monitor. All three of which is important in my choice of monitor.

Most monitors are consumer grade "TN" monitors that are typically just fine for most gamers and all normal home  / business uses.

It appears that this monitor has or will be going out of production as I don't find it on the HP web site. Might explain why it's on sale.
It appears that the number of available 16:10 ratio monitors are getting less and less in favor of 16:9.

Anyone have any other suggestions for a monitor with the type of requirements that I am looking for that is $600.00 or less?

I would prefer a 16:10 monitor, but will concider 16:9 as long as it is a "IPS" "TFT" monitor. 1920x1200 is also preferred.

Anyone out there that also uses their DS computer for photography or video editing that can make any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sorry for being late to respond but I just received my new 24 inch monitor and it is great. Go to Dell and search for U2410 Ultrasharp. This is a 24 inch monitor with 1920x1200 max rez. Check out the reviews I think they covered all questions I had. The great things about this monitor are:
1. HDMI and DVI inputs, Playstation and Computer hookup, no swaping cables.
2. 178 degrees viewing angle both horizontal and vertical
3. Price $599.99
4. The monitor can be rotated to portrait or lanscape.
5. Built in USB ports.
6. Built in card reader.

Good Luck

You forgot to add:
1. 6 ms response time
2. IPS panel
3. $480 after tax (assuming you know who to call and what to say :) )

Yah and no ghosting and the control buttons are real cool to. I have hooked mine up to my PS3 and Velocity Micro just to test while I wait for my new DS system. The 1080P is awesome. Ran my Velocity Micro on 1920x1200 and max settings with Graw but it got a little jerky, it only has duo core CPU one 9800 nvidia card. All in all I think for the price it's a great buy. I got mine on sale for $499 during the Thankgiving sale.

Thanks for the info guys!

It appears that the Dell U2410 is using the same LG panel as the HP2475 that I mentioned in my first post. There are a
similar number of people complaining about the issue of some of these panels are coming out of Mexico with a right to
left, cyan/green - magenta/pink color tint issue. It appears to be a very hit or miss deal for both the HP and Dell monitors.

But, the price is better than the HP model and the Dell is currently in production as the HP is still up in the air from what I
have been able to research so far.

Quoting satsunada: " 3. $480 after tax (assuming you know who to call and what to say :) )"

SOOOO...I don't know who to call or what to say at Dell. Any chance you could coach me on this?Ouch

This is confirmed to work, it's from another forum:

Keith Wenzel

([email protected])

Mention hardforum (that's the other forum), and that you're looking at buying a U2410, and he'll have someone call you back. He is no longer in the right department, but he'll get the right person for you. They'll apply all the discounts they can (no need to haggle or anything). You may have to mention you saw someone got it for $480. Depending on where you are, taxes may kick in.

Hope I don't get in trouble for this post...

Thank you very much for the coaching! I seriously doubt that you could get into trouble. If I call him and I am asked, then I will simply tell him I was reading some reviews during my research into this monitor and found his name and number, but for the life of me I can't remember where I found it, as I read so many sites my eyes were bleeding! Ya, just say something like "I read on Hardforum that you can help me buy a U2410 monitor for my computer" .. should pretty much work itself from there by my understanding.  If you're not comfy calling, send an email. Relax Evil%20Smile  you'll be fine.

Get the HP2475W.. It doesn't get any better.. it's even better than the dells. It costs a bit more, but I guarantee you won't be dissapointed.. it's really awesome for gaming, incredible. I want to buy a second one!

Actually it does get better, besides.. both use roughly the same panel and the 2475 is more expensive by a hundred bucks or so. Really no comparison on this budget.

And DST4ME, the topic on HF is in Displays, Dell U2410, and the post I copied is on pg. 51 i think of the topic. I'm pretty sure at least.

I use the HP LP2475 and I love it. FC2 looks and plays spectacularly. It is hard for me to imagine a better display at this price point.
