So, I just bought my new DSO computer last week and I'm going to get a new monitor to go with it. I would like a 22".

Any suggestions? good ones? bad ones?

thanks

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2232GW. A 22" Glossy Screen LCD

It is a great monitor, widescreen 1600 x 1050, 2 MS response Time and 3000:1 contrast ratio.

It is definitely hot as far as specs, it does not rotate on its included stand.

The field of view is excellent left to right, up and down the optimal angle is fairly narrow, ie, lean back in your chair you will notice the monitor colors darken a bit. It has good up/down mobility in the stand however so you can adjust for how you sit/how tall you are pretty well.

As far as gaming it is really fast, no ghosts, no double images, just clear, fast images.

Yes, a bit bigger and a bit slower response time... otherwise very similar... Samsung makes great LCD monitors... top of the line in my opinion.

Gaming wise the 2 MS response time is far and away better than 5 MS on the 245... but the 245 is just as bright and has a better stand... The 245 is also a 24" monitor up over $400 last I saw.

The 2232 is just about $300 retail, less online if you order from an e-tailer.

It is all in what you want from your monitor.

=P. You could always get a 28 inch hansspree.

Its a good gaming monitor, color contrast is a bit weak, but other then that, ive had solid performance out of mine. Though it does have one stuck pixil and of course its on red...i cant get the damn thing unstuck for anything..haha. Luckly its way up on the corner.

Well anyway Tom,

seems like most of us are in agreement Samsung is good, especially their high speed monitors designed for gaming.

22 - 24 is the sweetspot price to performance right now, between like 280 and 330 for the 22" and around 400 - 500 or so for the 24" for the good prices I have seen. I have seen far more expensive, but why look for the highest price :)

I have used HP (ok), Viewsonic (yuck), NEC (was great, losing share these days)

Of the 4 I by far have enjoyed my Samsung best of all, clarity, speed and color are all great.

I got a 22" Samsung 225BW last year and love it. It has no issues that I've noticed.

How does the Samsung 220WM hold up for playing AOC and other games?  Only mentioning that model because it is on sale.

Trying to choose a good monitor.

As far as graphics card, I got 2x SLI Dual (nVidia GeForce 9800GTX 512MB).
What would be a good 1680x1050 monitor for gaming.

I picked up the Acer P243W: 24", 2ms, HDMI, 3000:1, 1920X1200.  Every review I've read about it has been great.

Like I mentioned in Conan thread, I would say you would be happier with a 2232gw than a 220WM. the 2232 is faster, brighter, just all around better for an LCD and about the same price, especially if you shop around.

As far as the Acer, any monitor where large numbers of reviews are prefaced with, the Acer monitors usually have poor picture but I like this one, eh... I would rather stay away from :)

is that a 3000:1 contrast ratio or a 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio? They love to use dynamic to make the number look big and beefy.

wonder what the ACM stands for. Probably yet another way to measure contrast ratio that makes the number seem inflated. =P

Edit:
Ah ha!

I dunno what any of this means...like I said before im not a picture quality nut. Like in that display where they show the original and enchanced..they both look fine to me..haha.

acm is some stupid technology from acer.

Companies that don't advertise their measurements usually always displays GTG response times and dynamic contrast ratios.
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.
