Windows XP

Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings

Select best performance to clear all, then scroll down and enable the last three and also Smooth edges of screen fonts.

This will make everything more "snappy" in Windows.

Disable System Restore Service

This is not recommended for everyone. Only disable this feature if you are confident in your computing skills. Disabling this service improves performance by stopping Windows from constantly caching data to your hard drive.

Start -> Run -> Services.msc

Locate the System Restore service and disable.

Couple the above with my XP service tweaks and you'll really be flyin! :)

I have never been able to use system restore since it seems it has never worked for me. So, if that is the case, would it be OK to thurn it off?

lol none of those will make any difference if you have 2GB of ram or more, these things barely ever make a difference.

to turn off system restore, just go to "my computer>properties>system restore>here choose to "turn off system restore for all drives"

hit apply, hit ok, and done. you don't need to go services to stop the service, besides if its set to auto start, the service will start backup on its own.
