the EVGA X58 3X SLI or
the ASUS Rampage II Extreme

very clueless on these issues, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Drop the second gpu and use the money to upgrade to the 965EE cpu and add the memory fan set. One 295 is plenty for a 24" monitor at 1930x1200. You can always add a 295 later and it will be about 2-3 hunderd cheaper.  also go with the asus xonar sound card.

wow, all this sounds great, just waiting for my funds to come together, I understand that you guys keep recommending the asus sound card, but I have actually read some great reviews on the razer sound card. Is there much of a difference between them other than about 80 dollars?
