I have a Velox with custom cooling loop (CPU/GPU/2x radiators) and I need to move to a new house. Should I just drain it and refill with new coolant at the new location? Or will the 30 minute ride in my truck not be an issue (weight, strain, etc)? What’s best practice? I do have a couple of liters of new coolant , so it’s not an issue that way. Just don’t want to drain if it’s not needed as the coolant in it is just a few weeks old.
Thanks! |

I would be very careful and keep to smooth roads and not drain but that's me. Set on a pillow and secure. Good luck. If you kept the packing foam, of course repack. Edited by hoserator - 21 May 2023 at 9:10am |

I do have the packing foam. I’ll give it a go swaddled up. I think I’ll add some moisture detection paper just to catch and locate any micro leaks. Thanks for the quick reply. |

Moved an open loop system a few years ago. Took no special precautions prior to the move, just took it easy while driving and had no issues. Did check real good for any leaks before powering up again after the move.
Good Luck. |

Short controlled moves with even fragile systems are normally fine, just take precautions and go slow. It's the long distance shipping that will get you because then your chances of the PC getting kicked off a loading ramp go up exponentially.

I have always learned better safe than sorry, take the extra 5min to drain it down as far as you can get and it will give you peace of mind. Had to clean a few motherboards from moving leaks and it is not fun lol

I respectfully disagree with C5MGalaxy. There is absolutely no need to drain if you are doing the driving and the pc is properly secured (both inside and to the vehicle). I have moved an Aventum on a car with no issues. I understand better safe than sorry but...there are more issues present in a drain /refill scenario than a drive. My 2cents worth. |

Well in my job I transported a LOT with ECMO. And ECMO has lots of Tygon tubing full of the patients blood supply.
Secure is best. I have LC in my "cube" and have transported. Pillows, back seat with the safety belt on, covered in shipping blankets. And avoided train tracks. I do drain my system every two years and replace fluid and Tygon tubing(soft) if need be. Just call me the "Zip Tie Installer with Cable Tie Gun" |

Me sitting my ECMO in PICU. Now you know why I like LC. ;)

I am also a member of the buckling the PC into the seat belt club. Nice comfy pillows too. What a life to be a PC.
