Hello all!
I had a quick question, I will be moving states so about a 16 hour drive and was curious on the safest way to move my pc without taking anything out as i'm not comfortable with that honestly, i'v heard that you can easily damage your motherboard and a bit worried!
Forgot to mention that i stupidly don't have the box or anything anymore. You could stuff some towels in the case to secure the video card, but I doubt that would be necessary as a PC traveling in a personal vehicle is a lot, lot smoother than when they are shipped. You could also take the video card out during transport. Very easy to do, lots of videos on how to do such a thing. Just protect the case from scratching or breaking if it has glass panel(s) and you should be fine.

Thanks for the response! I will probably just put it behind the seat on the floor and secure it and pray!

Just a thought.. if you're going to put it in a moving vehicle and not going to pull out components, I would suggest laying it flat on its back as the GPUs are generally pretty heavy and are being held on one side. So, a towel or something lain in there and riding around flat may help mitigate any problems.

I also agree w/Snaike as to laying it flat on its backside with some protection (like with a towel or thicker) unless you do remove the gpu. A towel inside under the gpu is not enough to secure it. You can't let it flex any to avoid damaging its slot on the mobo. You will have no issues whichever position you end up using for the rest of the system. Drive safely and carefully. Have a good trip. ![]() Edited by hoserator - 30 May 2021 at 3:05am |

Just moved my Lumos on a 40 mile drive. Put 2 layers of thick towels on the backseat of the car. Then sat the computer upright on those towels and then wrapped more towels completely around all exposed parts of the computer. Strapped the seatbelt/shoulder harness over the towels to firmly hold the computer in-place and commenced the drive. No rough roads and no race car maneuvers.
The computer arrived undamaged and booted right up at the new house. |
