Hey all,
As I have my new rig arriving soon I was looking through the forum at some of the software avail to benchmark when I get the rig and also keep it nice and clean. I do remember in the past there was a write up of a nice clean and easy way to migrate from one computer to another whilst maintaining all of the major settings and the like. I cannot remember who wrote it and I cannot find it int he forum anymore... Anyone got any ideas? From memory DST4ME wrote it but I could be wrong! |

well if you want something where you don't need to do anything and just let it transfer i would use windows easy transfer http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer
But it takes way too long and during it you can't use your computer so if its possible to remove your hdd from your old computer you can put it in your new one and copy it into your new hdd but if you don't know what your doing i wouldn't mess with it. if you have a external hd big enough to hold your whole disk thats probably another good way. What i ended up doing when i went from my old xp computer to my laptop is put all the files i wanted to transfer in shared documents and remotely accessed the old computer on the new one and dragged the folders to where they should go on your new computer. (that will only work if both computers are on the same network) There is no way to transfer your programs from one to another computer so you should just reinsall them. But in my opinion i like to keep a new computer fresh so i usually just transfer things like documents, music, pictures and videos from c:\users\username\ Thats just how i like to do it. Oh and for keeping your computer running pretty fast a clean installl occasionaly always works best but CCleaner works well at cleaning up what applications leave behind. |
