Topic: MSI Afterburner Voltage? Posted: 15 Oct 2011 at 3:58am |
So I have been experimenting a bit with overclocking my GPU's (GTX570s) using MSI Afterburner. I noticed that the Core Voltage reading was missing. after looking at the settings menu and enabling unlock voltage control and unlock voltage monitoring and restarting both afterburner and my system several times the Core Voltage still has no value. what would cause this?
also, in my experimenting i discovered that an OC of 800MHz Core/ 1600 Shader, 1900 Memory seamed to be stable in Heaven and Fur Mark but the system sized when i tried 3D Mark 11. I assume that this means the OC was unstable? would bumping my voltage a bit possibly help? what would be a safe limit on voltage/ clock speeds? Thanks for all your help! |

don't oc the memory.
You probably can't change core voltage on your card. I don't use 3d mark anymore, I just use fah, if it can fold to 100% its stable. |

okay, thanks DST. with folding which client do i install? the GPU one? how should i configure it? when testing to see if its stable do i look at the GPU usage percentage or the core clock? thanks again!

follow my fah guide here
all you do is let it run and fold, if the gpu clients fold to 100%, your system is stable but watch the temps, make sure your fan profile is high, fah puts some serious stress on the gpus, unlike anything else. |

okay, how long should it take for the PPD boxes to turn green? ive let it sit there for like 10 minutes at stock settings and it looks like nothing happens. the % Complete is 0 for both gpus and the PPD reads 0.0. In afterburner the GPU usage for both cards is at 99% but the core clock for both is only at 405 (max 732). Thank you for your help!

it does take a while so lets see what the status viewer says. the fact that they are 405 tho is not a good sign, they hay have down-clocked. you watching your temps? if so what is the max so far? Edited by DST4ME - 15 Oct 2011 at 6:28pm |

I can't see that image its been resized, can you post the forum thumbnail code here instead?
but from the little I could tell from fah, looks like you are at 2% so its moving, it goes slow, but let it keep going, it will take a few hours. I like to see your afterburner stats, can you give me a big image of that, just upload here instead, do you know how to do that? |

i do not know how to upload an image here. sorry. now all the PPD's are green. 24,557.7 for the SMP (what is the SMP?) and 6,639.4 for both GPU's. the SMP is at 63% complete and the GPU's are at 34%. im asssuming this is good? Afterburner says that both GPU's are at 99% usage but still only at 405 core clock. which afterburner stats would you like? and how do you upload them here?
here's the thumb nail, but this was taken hours ago |

if your clock is at 400 instead of your 700 then the gpus have down clocked. |

Update: quiting FAH and trying to run Heaven and FurMark resulted in the same thing: 99% GPU load but only 405GHz clock speed.

Update #3: FAH started, PPD still in yellow but afterburner reports that GPU's are at 732 each.

Ya I see your gpu downclocked, you had to restart to get them back to full clock.
you can run fah again, this time its should go twice as fast. keep eyes on temps. |

what would have caused the down clock? and now FAH is all green, and with roughly twice the PPD for the GPUs but half for the SMP. if im using it as a stability test how do i tell? if it reaches the green? or reaches 100% complete? or? thanks for all your help dst.

If it reaches 100% without any errors or pc stability problems, then you are as stable as it gets.
if they get too hot or overloaded they will downclock. |

okay thanks! they are 100% stable at 800MHz core. is there any disadvantage to leaving them at that oc? the max temp they seem to reach is 61'C. also im just curious, why do you guys recommend against adjusting voltage and overclocking the memory?
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP! |

the power layout/design isn't as beefy as the 580, even people who run superclocked evga models are showing a higher than normal failure rate with the cards. |
