Anyone heard anything good about MSI cards in general? I like the idea of better cooling and being quieter in general. Not sure if the US release version of the Arctic Cooling GTX 280 Accelero xtreme (awesome vga cooler) will be viable in SLi or not. If its not, then this would be a good alternative.
Any thoughts?

MSI 1 year warranty... standard GTX 285's run pretty quite, so if the MSI has a few less db's it won't be noticeable. Go with Evga for the free step up program, and lifetime warranty.

Imo- 2 fans, at half the speed = less noise than 1 fan at double the speed.

lol, that is not how fans, or noise works... it could have 30 fans and make less noise than 1 fan... just like one fan could put out more CFM than 30 fans could
....2 fans, same size, same speed, one can make twice the noise and 1/2 the CFM..

I must have missed the parts where it said it was a lower cfm fan then the normal one, if it is lower cfm and has lower dba at the max cfm then I stand corrected, but I doubt it

like I said earlier, lower cfm fan does not mean lower db, or vice versa.

Well, i KNOW that the AC triple fan VGA cooler are super quiet and make the stock ones seem like a train in your computer case by comparison. But it is unlikely i will be able to SLI with a PCI-e soundcard in my case with the AC ones. Several email attempts at gettin this infor from them have failed.
Everyone knows i like quiet. My current gtx 285 is much quieter than i thought it would be, but still louder than what i want. I just wish ACTUAL reviews on it were out. I know i could SLI them MSI cards. As it stands though, one GTX 285 SC in my system rocks everything i throw at it at 1900x1200 resolution. Not sure if another is even needed. But i want it all the same..lol Maybe i should just be happy.....but its just soooo hard being me
The AC cooler is due out this week..sometime. I will prob just sink my money and hope for the best. I know it will be awesome, but may shatter SLI hopes on the EVGA board. The only place I saw it actually tested was with an MSI or GB board, and SLi was possible on them. But on my old EVGA 680i it wasnt possible with GTX 9800's. Here's wishing the best!
NOTE:
To quote the above linked article review:
"It is available at a higher price than other GTX 285 based video cards. That higher price does provide better cooling, and near silent operation" Edited by Mezzeron - 01 May 2009 at 10:29pm |
