    Posted: 06 Jul 2010 at 12:31am
My current system has a RAID 0: 2 SSD's for fast access of my C Drive (Games), And 4 raw 1.5Tb drives.

I want to use the 4 1.5Tb drives in a RAID 5 config to act as a  "big" media server on my machine and network with the advantages of parity. When I go into the RAID config utility on bootup, it can see 2 of the 4 drives, as well as the existing SSD RAID 0 drive, but it can't see the other 2 drives and as such cant make anything other than another RAID 0 or 1 drive.

Is there a limitation with the EVGA X58 Classified mobo that prevents it from seeing more than 4 drives Altogether, or is there a way I can still do this? (What did I miss, and is there a ridiculously easy way to do this?) Confused

Additional notes: I have 2 optical drives in AHCI. Windows can see all of my drives listed here, format them and use them individually, but the on board RAID utility can't. I do not have any spare slots to add an additional card of any kind.

Thanks for that "too the point" comment justin.kerr,

That was the clue. On further investigation I discovered that the Devil made Red SATA connectors are actually another SATA controller.

I moved the optical drives to the Red connectors and the two "missing" 1.5Tb drives to the black connectors and I now have my 1st RAID 5 array!

Many thanks man, and hope this post is helpful to others.  Big%20Smile
