I thought it would be nice to start a topic in which we could share must have software you have installed on your computer. (Utilities, Editing software, Media Software, Games, browsers, feel free to post what software you love having on your machine)

For me I have to have,

REVO Uninstaller-great for completely removing any program

Steam for pretty much all my games.
Chrome is my primary web browser, Opera is my secondary.
For system monitoring I use HWmonitor and GPUz.
Adobe Elements 10 for some pretty basic video editing.
Aside from a bunch of games there's not much else that I use software-wise.

I really like the idea of this thread, wonder what others are using on their systems.

I'm using PC Tools Registry Mechanic but it looks like CCleaner may be a better overall program. Especially if it is FREE! Strong

I think Malwarebytes has one of the best Anti-Virus programs around. It has saved ny butt more than once.

I would be interested to know what you guys think about some of the evaluation software like GPU-Z and CPU-Z. Do they have an advantage over the inherent programs that may already be contained on the Motherboard like the Asus Sabertooth X79 UEFI tools in the Bios?

I like GPUz because you can set it to record data to a text file.  It records the data every second allowing you to go back after a gaming session and see how the card performed over time.

It can only record 1 card at a time.  If you have a SLI setup you would have to exit the game then select another card.  You will see a break in the data so you will know when you switched cards.

@ xii, so I was curious as to why you believe this Anti- Virus software is the best period. I am interested to know if there is in fact a lot better than Security Essentials. I know from prior experiences I will never touch Norton and actually the last time I had Norton was more than a decade ago, AVG I have used once, I just havent used an actual paid software that doesnt bog down the system or just make everything else slow so I have been so weary of using anything but MS Essentials.

Thanks for asking. I hope you don't mind but I'm going to respond to this with all the things that I believe make it not only a better AV but also a better deal (subscriptions).

First off I love their threat-center which keeps you on top of threats to PC's worldwide. ESET's all-in-one package, Smart Security 6 also enables you to track your PC if it is stolen but isn't limited to that feature alone. It has a very well built firewall, is not intrusive at all, provides real time scanning of all your files with a low footprint. In other words, it does a big boy job with little system resource punishment.

Eset has never missed an "in the wild virus." In the wild viruses are real viruses that have been reported to Wildlist organizations by at least two independent reporters. ESET is the only solution in the world that has never missed an In-the-Wild virus since May 1998. ESET has zero misses where some vendors had over half-a-thousand. If you think an anti-virus solution across multiple Operating Systems is better, you'd be hard pressed to back that with facts. Check here and here.

They are industry proven. They have the most testing awards of all leading testing platforms such as; AVG, Microsoft System Essentials/Windows Defender and Norton.

Also, in closing, they offer more industry proven, reliable results than any other provider for the money. With the addition of "Gamer mode," you don't even see popups anymore and can game in peace without interruptions.

Again, thanks for posting!

Regards,

Xii

I don't recommend software like the SlimDrivers, SecuniaPSI, they are not needed, only driver you need to keep upto date unless you have problems is gpu drivers.

SecuniaPSI does not support all software and its blot/redundant-ware.

However, it has been reported that SlimDrivers Free is not 100% correct when updating drivers, sometimes it even install wrong drivers which is not compatible with the system.

Keep your pcs simple and clean, more apps means more headaches, specially those kinds of apps.

@xii thank you, I try to be around when I have time, if I get busy again, you can bet I will be back, but even if I'm not here, my posts are

HDTune is used a lot in benching drives, it tho does not support some ssds smart data.

at the end there is a free version, if you want to test your drive and etc, its ok.

otherwise you always check disk or chkdsk /f/r from command prompt to scan and fix/repair bad sectors of the drive.

most manufacturers have their own software, if you have an intel for example it has its own software.

Its intended to clean junk/temp files. It can also erase history, cookies, typed URL's, open/save dialogs, windows run as well as many applications recent file history. Windows logs, Error reporting, recycle bin, memory dumps and more. You can do secure wipes of files (as opposed to deleting them).
