Well I have always bought Dell pc's. They have become so cheap its really a shame. I also don't like all the worthless software they load onto it. I have decided to go another route this time. My current pc is a 5 year old Dell, P4 3.2ghz 1gb ram.
I currently use an also 5 year old Viewsonic A90F crt monitor.
The config I made here will need to last 5-7 years. I use my pc for internet with occasional HD video and gaming. I am not a hard core gamer.
1. The config does NOT include overclocking. How much extra stress does that put on the processer? How much will that shorten its life span?
2. I went with the 1866 ram vs the 1600. Will I notice a performance edge there? I see that most builds here spec the 1600.
If you guys can convince me that overclocking the cpu will not shorten its lifespan I may go with that and save a little cash to put torwards a better video card. I will also be using air cooling only. Dont want to hassle with water cooling.
I dont know what res I will be running this at because I dont know what display I will be upgrading to. I will upgrade the display in a few months.

The 1866 ram will not help in games at all.
I would recommend getting the 920 + overclocking, the lifespan of the CPU will be well over 7 years. I would recommend the ATI 5870, but I have no idea when we are getting more in. Go with Windows 7 Home Premium unless you need XP Mode. |

Just so you know, the ATI 5870 will most likely delay your order 3-4 weeks.

Well I just now got it up and running. Wow what a beast!
Only have 1 issue so far. HAF 932 Case. On the top front of the case, the left two USB ports do not work. The right two work fine. I am guessing they are not plugged in. Any quick suggesstions? I'll call DS on Monday on the issue. Tomorrow may take a look in the case to see whats amiss but didnt notice anything when i installed my video card.
