the quality of your audio will prove to be little or no difference with a 3rd party sound card. the idea behind an offboard APU is to take some stress off the processor, but a 9450 will never have a problem with it.

i think you hit the nail on the head, then only things i might change are dropping the sound card, opting for 2 lightscribe drives(becuase of the thinner, lighter SATA connections) and maybe adding in some cool case lightingSmile

other than that it will be a beast that will serve you well

i appreciate the advice.

if I do 2 250g hdd's whats the difference between raid 1 and raid 0?

also, does lightscribe offer anything besides labeling? because in my neck of the woods we use sharpies. I could get the nicer cd/dvd drives w/o lightscribe to save a couple bucks.

and i might go with the green inner lights to give a cool alien vibe. just maaybbe.

course the changes (+ hdd's minus sound card) equal out link

i am personally against raid configs, i think its a massive waste of space and money with little return, but you can do some more reading on it here and on the web to see what suits you best

the reason for lightscribe is the tiny hightech SATA connection vs the typical bulky IDE connection, takes up much less space inside your case allowing better airflow, it looks better, and it does everything the cheaper drives do

my opinion, raid will not show you any tangible benefit, youll be paying over 40 dollars more for half the space, twice the heat, power draw, and large potential for hassle... and from all that youll gain a couple benchmark points and a less-than-noticable difference in the load times of some games

Reading that pretty much makes sense (also, saving 50 bones with no significant loss whatsoever is nice too :)

thanks,

booya

HOWEVER....

Getting back to my ddr2 vs DDR3 thread... this is an almost identical build with just the mobo and ram changed for only about 70 bucks more.

the ram is bumped from ddr2 1066 to ddr3 1333 and the mobo is the intel (or could be the asus for a grand total equal to my ddr2 build)

booyarr3

whats the prognosis doctors?

good digging on that price difference... while ddr3 may not be worth a large increase in cost i would say that i the difference in those 2 builds is well worth 70 bucks, id get the 2nd one

I totally disagree with this statement. While onboard audio is good these days, a high quality discrete card will still sound better. This is especially true if you are an avid audiophile or lover of live unamplified music (read, know what music really sounds like). If you are running the sound thru a stereo or using high quality headphones, you will hear the difference. I like my Grado RS-1 headphones, but the digital artifacts with CDs are annoying, so I either listen thru my speakers or with some $80 budget cans. Note that this only applies to audio, since gunfire, explosions, screams of pain... etc. drown out all that digital grunge.

P.S. I hate the SB Audigy card hehe
