My order placed on February 22 has now arrived! My first impression: this is thing is big & heavy. Really big & heavy. As in almost-threw-out-my-back-lifting-get-the-hand-truck-now big & heavy. Oh yeah, and it's gorgeous too.
After hauling it into its new home, pulling out the interior packing material (and a quick inspection to make sure all looked ok) I powered it up and it is indeed a thing of beauty! I had a brief scare when my monitor didn't show anything, but then plugged it in to the other card (I have dual sli strix 980ti cards) it was fine! :::: whew ::::: I'm busy installing my first "let's see how far I can crank things" game, Dragon Age Inquisition (which I've never been able to run maxed-out before) and am looking forward to having it stretch its legs. Even ordinary tasks are flying faster than my former PC (which was no slouch) so I'm sure this will be fun. Full review to follow in a week or so. My pic files are too large to post. At some point I'll downsize some and post here, but for now you should be able to see them on google photos Edited by Alex - 30 Mar 2016 at 5:03pm |

Wow. That's real nice looking. Congratulations. I think the first response when one sees an Aventum for the first time is..THAT IS BIG. Enjoy it. I like the soft tubing better than the hard one. Way easier to work with.

welcome fellow Aventum owner! congrats on receiving your new system.
i'm a little concerned about that first card you had your monitor plugged into. it shouldn't really matter which card you had your monitor plugged into. are you sure the card is functional? is it being detected in device manager and conflict-free? drivers up to date? connections all confirmed? nice pics. which monitor is that? |

Congrats.
Agreed, either card should work. Good to double check with the suggestions. |

All seems fine, the system shows both cards and I could activate sli and sli is definitely working fine because I'm playing DAI on ultrawide and max every setting and everything's smooth and all Temps stayed in mid 30s or lower which is amazing compared to what my prior system did! Perhaps it was just my monitor being fussy. |

Thanks Alex!
db188, I'm loving the X34 so far. It looks like early batches had more than a few units w/issues, but mine didn't have any. There's a bit of light bleed on the edges in an all-black screen when I have brightness up higher, but well within what I'd expect. The picture is phenomenal, and the curve isn't noticeable when in normal sitting range. I'm overclocking mine to 80hz. In theory it can go to 100hz, though most people I see posting about odd little glitches are overclocked to 100, so I may just leave it at 80 or 90 and not worry. Either way it's the best picture from a monitor I've ever owned. And the speakers were a pleasant surprise. Of course not too bass-capable, but more than usable if I get sick of wearing headphones for a while. Back to a DS-related note, after using motherboard-based audio on my prior pc I'm glad I asked DS to put in a Soundblaster Z, it sounds fantastic on my headphones. I have Astro A50s and their "fake surround" definitely works much better being fed from that. I have to be careful to not turn things up too loud now, as the bass and overall volume is much more powerful than before. I wish I were home gaming right now.... Stupid work. Well, work did pay for the Aventum, so I can't be too upset... |
