I'm looking at this setup right now:
Ticket Number: 188331 Total Price with Instant Savings: $2,299.00 Direct Load URL: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=188331How much of a difference would the 790i MB be over the 750? Is there going to be a huge differnce between these two motherboards? Also, I'm looking at two 500gb hard drives. I want to use one of the drives as normal, the other more for storage for MP3's and files. I'm not sure what all the raid setups or stripes mean?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

On the HDs and RAID. RAID-0 is where the two drives will each have half the data written to each drive. You would end up with one logical drive of 1 TB. Write speeds are faster because it is writting 1/2 the files to each drive. The draw back to this form of RAID is that if one drive fails you loose everything on both drives.
RAID-1 is where the two drives are mirrored, i.e. a copy of each file is placed on both drives, so you end up with one logical drive of 500 GB, write speeds are the same as writting to a single drive. The advantage to this is that if one drive fails you still have all of your files on the other drive, you loose nothing.
If you have the need for RAID-1 it may be best to have one smaller drive for your OS and program installs and then the two 500 GB drives in a RAID-1 for your important pictures/videos/documents that you do not want to loose.
You will see from my configuration that I have 3 500GB drives, One for the OS/Program files and two in a RAID-1 for my important files. (I also have a couple of external drived for doing a weekly backup. (I originally had two 500 GB drives in a RAID-0 and one failed - I was fortunate in that a restoration company was able to get my videos, pictures, and emails off of the failed drives.) For the cost of an extra drive (~$100) I could have saved myself a lot of aggrivation and money.

If you are not over clocking, go with the 750i.
raid is a waste of time and headache the Raptor is a faster drive, use it for OS and apps, and games. use the second drive for media/personal files here is a better setup for you: here you go Ticket# 188538 --- Price: $2134 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 650W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz (1333MHz FSB) (6MB Cache) Motherboard: NVIDIA 750i SLI Core 2 Quad (Chipset: nForce 750i SLI) System Memory: 4GB DDR2 800MHz OCZ Card Reader: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black) Hard Drive 1: 150GB Western Digital Raptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Razer Barracuda AC-1 (Recommended) Extreme Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 2 (Silent Artic Cooling Heat-sink Upgrade (Copper Heatpipes) Internal Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Red Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes) Modifications: LCD Temperature Display & Fan Controller Boost Processor: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty also recommend you raise your warranty to 5 years.
