I don't know if I should stick with 1 480 and a 750w PS and loose the liquid cooling in exchange for Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler or go ahead and save some money and splurge on the extreme... how much more performance will it give me?

Noctua dual 120 can cool your computer just fine with those spec`s if you dont really want LC cooling you can save some there

definitely not worth it to change anything for the 6 core chip.. it wont help your gaming in the least. if you dropped the 2nd video card and went to an extreme chip you would only decrease your gaming power.

im sure you know that you dont need liquid cooling, but obviously that is preference
the build looks good to me if thats what youre looking to spend, there are no silly mistakes or anything if thats what you were asking

Ender, in your write up you suggested that if someone were to get dual 480'S to water cool them before you liquid cool the CPU, Are you saying even with dual cards I don't need liquid cooling? Cuz I'd be saving almost 500 bucks. Liquid cooling looks cool but if I can save 500 good bye LC lol.

In the configuration choices they provide, the only one with cooling for both cards and the CPU was the stage 6.

Ender I'm kinda plagiarizing your 2k plus build here so my question to you is how much of a difference will I see in my gaming (Age of Conan boss fights are hard on systems) between your 1 480 card build and a 2 480 card build? is it the difference between seeing 100+ fps and 50 fps or more like a machine barely ticking over versus a machine getting pushed. Or does it just boil down to bragging rights?

OK let me do this the right way...
1) Monitor size: 22" Acer
2) Budget: 3k tops
3) whether you will use any equipment from your last computer on the new computer: I only need the tower.
4) General uses to be done on the computer: Gaming 90% internet, music etc. 10%) I can be on line gaming for 5+ hrs.

theres no setup that needs water cooling, its not technically a luxury becuase it can help you improve performance with higher overclocks, but its never a requirement, if you want to overclock the crap out of the cards, LC will keep it cool and quiet, but other than that, the gains are not very cost effective

Yes and No - the gains from SLI are very substantial, nothing to be argued with, but it depends on what game youre talking about... for example, mw2 caps fps at 90, period.. so an sli setup on that game would show no difference (maybe a difference at a high resolution becuase it should have a higher minimum fps than just one card)

but on a newer or tougher game like metro2033, the gains will be obvious. the increase wouldnt be double (like 50 vs 100 fps), closer to 60-80% gains, depending on the game

no need to start over, you were mostly right, maybe just overzealous on the cooling. liquid is nice to keep overclocked GPUs cool and quiet, but if youre building a gaming only system, you dont need to overclock dual 480s

nauticus did you read the posting guide linked in my signature?

definitely avoid the fan upgrade, the haf cases already have good cooling
and probably best to avoid the os tweak, win 7 is already optimized pretty freaking well, most of the other stuff they could change would be preference and could limit some of your uses depending on what you do

plus i bet they leave the backup and indexing which are the main resource drains of 7 that i remove first

Ya I read your guide which is what I was basing things on, I was debating on the fan upgrade but thought the green fans would look cool... lol its an easy scratch off. The tweeks I was wondering at cuz I usually don't worry about that too much but DS was offering it free so... maybe they know something I don't...

its true you could gain from what they change, and if you dont do much but game its probably ok

the green led fans would look cool but they are all 120mms which means a significant noise increase over the stock fans, so thats your choice

EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) is no longer in DS mobo list when you go to customize a configuration.

So does that mean the Noctura dh14 is no longer a viable option on my build given that the description says it won't fit the regular EVGA X58 3X SLI
