I'm getting close to being able to buy my ds computer so this will be my final configuration. Let me know what y'all think. Quick question is it worth to get the microsoft office even though its a 2010 version?

Nice build. looks like you pretty much hit the bang for buck highlights. Office 2010 is certainly not outdated. Whether it is worth it depends on your usage. You could probably get it cheaper elsewhere especially through MS discounts if your a student or your employer uses Office. (I got Office Pro for $20).
Not sure if your interested but an extra 200mm matching fan in the top of the HAFX case is only $30.(you can request in comments) was worth it to me even if its just as a running spare if another 200mm fan dies somewhere down the line.

Yep. We used to ask for Coolermaster MegaFlow 200 silent non-led fan but not sure if thats still what they stock. You could ask for that and see. DS knows what you mean either way.

Nice build! Looks great. I think its going to be the twin baby to my build in almost every regard. The ONLY difference being our drive setup. Someone did their homework!
Enjoy! |

Thank you. Lol yea i guess i did do my homework. But i kinda wanted a computer with lots of storage so i figured 500gb on the first hd and 2tb on the second one would do.

Have you considered putting a 120GB SSD as your boot drive and having a 2 TB HDD as your storage drive? I think you will find your performance and bang for your buck will go way up at that point. SSD speeds are night-and-day compared to spinning disks.
Either way, I'm naming mine Charlie. What's his little sisters name? ![]() |

the 500gb is Solid State Hybrid though unless it uses spinning disks but it wouldn't bother me

May I ask what you primarily use your computer for? 2 TB is an awfully large storage drive in and of itself. I can't imagine needing that much space unless I was a torrenting maniac!
I would still opt for a higher performing SSD boot drive and fore-go the Hybrid option. If you find yourself still craving that additional headroom for storage, you could always have them add another 2 TB HDD. That way you get the best of both worlds and have a SSD to jump start your machine and launch it into orbit every time you turn it on. The difference really is huge. Not sure if you've ever seen it first hand before. ![]() |

Your call in the end I suppose
! Do take into consideration that (according to our good friend Google) you can fit more than 1,048,576 pictures on a 2 TB drive. It's absolutely ginormous! Either way, you will be in good hands with DS. Are you playing WoW? |

I think the hybrid is probably the best bang/buck. a 500gb hybrid with 4gb nand is cost neutral to a 120gb ssd. Since the hybrid drops most frequently used files in the nand, day-day your probably getting a near ssd-like experiance with an extra 376gb of storage.
Of course I got dual 240gb ssd's, but I was less concerned with optimizing value as I was optimizing performance within my budget.

Hi ArkansasWoman777,
Very smart move dropping the Hybrid drive for a SSD. Good looking build. The only change I would make would be to choose the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB (PhysX) (FTW Overclocked EVGA). It is another $127 but worth it to me. Frank |

The EVGA 670FTW vs. the reference gtx 670 ..... The FTW has the gtx680's larger circuit board for better power managment, the 680's larger cooling fan, larger exhaust vents on the back and is oc'd to 680 specs.
Gaming difference is only 5-10% at best , but just a better product and EVGA's very well respected warranty/tech support.. I agree with Frank.

i kinda hope that 240gb is enough to put the os, my Microsoft security essentials and other stuff. Will updates on the virus protection affect the 240gb? That was kinda my main concern.

I have that exact same SSD, and I have been using it for since April, and I still have more than 110GB open.

arkansas woman,
the intel 520 series is well reviewed, but the Neutron SSD's are also well reviewed and cheaper. Just a thought. As bpratt says the 670 FTW is a great card. It runs cooler than a reference 670 even though it's overclocked. I guess I hadn't realized there was only $27 between them!

Hi ArkansasWoman777,
I have the i5 3570 in my rig and it runs just fine. For gaming it makes no difference as games don't use hyperthreading. I have Windows 7 PRO loaded on a 180GB Intel 520 SSD. It loads real quickly and I have almost instant access to web pages. You should be fine with the i5 3570, but if it is in your budget then I would say get the i7 3770.
